About The Position

Provides electrical, high-voltage (HV) and substation testing, installation, maintenance and repair on electrical equipment and systems and power distribution systems. Work tasks involves testing, troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, modification, and general maintenance of complex alternating/direct current (AC/DC) electrical and electronic equipment such as transformers, generators, relays, switching and control panel, voltage regulators, generator and substation batteries.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate with 2+ years of progressive experience or Degree in Industrial Electrical/Electronic related field and progressive experience directly associated with installing, repairing and maintaining electrical and electronic components of machinery, equipment and systems.
  • Must possess and maintain current or acquire within 12 months from date of hire and maintain current, Inter-National Electrical Testing Association (NETA), AVO Training Institute, National Institute of Certification of Engineering Technologies (NICET) or equivalent certification in substation testing and maintenance.
  • Must Possess a valid drivers license
  • Comprehensive knowledge of electrical and electronic principles related to complex multi-component assembles and devices.
  • Demonstrates ability to use electrical and electronic test equipment to diagnose and correct equipment and control system problems.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools, rigging and lifting equipment.
  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics and blueprints.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of pertinent guidelines, rules, and regulations of NFPA and National Electric Code, and OSHA.
  • Good oral and written communication skills and abilities. Good interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates skills and abilities to utilize standard office management systems, including computers, scanners, copiers, printers, and software for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and industry-based software applications.
  • The position requires the ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to [50 pounds] on a regular basis. Candidates must demonstrate physical strength and stamina to perform various tasks, including but not limited to, loading, and unloading, operating equipment, and assisting in the transportation of various materials. Proper lifting techniques and safety protocols must be followed to ensure personal and team safety.
  • Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.
  • Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
  • Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
  • Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
  • May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
  • Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  • Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the first responder for emergency and routine repairs on HV and Medium Voltage equipment.
  • Performs safely switching and grounding of related components.
  • Performs substation inspections in accordance with applicable compliance regulations.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in diagnosing causes of malfunctions on a wide variety of electrical and electronically controlled and powered equipment and systems.
  • Takes infrared images to identify various mechanical and electrical problems.
  • Performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance tasks for electrical equipment and electronic controls and systems.
  • Performs troubleshooting and testing of electrical equipment, circuit breakers and systems in accordance with applicable procedures and guidelines.
  • Operates electrical power distribution systems up to and including 69 KV classification.
  • Operates, and maintains generators and load banks up to 600 VAC.
  • Maintains equipment and tools utilized to test, repair, install, and replace equipment.
  • Performs work involving the installation of complex electrical and electronic systems on systems up to and including 13.2 KV volt classification.
  • Utilizes personal protective equipment (PPE) for electrical and other hazards within the work environment.
  • Coordinates and implements Lock-Out-Tag-Out, Arc Flash and confined space entry protocols related to maintenance of electrical systems and equipment for Operations and other Trades/Skill Crafts.
  • Coordinates and performs maintenance tasks within mixed craft/trade work assignments.
  • Performs maintenance related housekeeping duties as required in the repair and maintenance of electrical equipment and systems.
  • Complies with rules and regulations related to safety and other work-related policies and procedures of the company, OSHA, NFPA, and NEC.
