Plans, lays out and performs a variety of highly-skilled operations pertaining to installation, construction, maintenance and repair for all electrical and low voltage wiring,(Data, communications, nurse call, TV’s, etc.), circuits, and all related systems and equipment. May act as primary mechanic for the hospital fire alarm system and associated equipment.

Requirements

  • Must have a High School Diploma and a minimum of four years trade school or apprenticeship program.
  • Must have a minimum of 5+ years as a licensed electrician.
  • Preferred experience in a commercial and/or industrial building.
  • Must be willing and able to perform a variety of low voltage electrical tasks as one of the primary responsibilities for this position.
  • Current Journeyman Electrical CT. E2 license.
  • Valid Connecticut Class I driver's license.
  • General orientation at time of hire.
  • Fire/Safety/Infection Control annually.
  • Other programs as mandated by the Hospital.
  • Knowledge of mechanical trades.
  • excellent knowledge of data, fiber and phone installations.
  • Requires advanced comprehension of all low voltage systems, cabling and NEC Wiring codes.
  • Available to be on-call 24/7 for urgent issues.
  • Windows desktop computer to perform job duties.
  • Able to work days and nights as needed.
  • Strong attention to detail, quality and cleanliness.
  • Professional attitude and appearance.
  • Light to medium and occasional heavy lifting in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Works in awkward positions which require bending, climbing stairs and ladders, standing and walking, etc.
  • Exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, and heat.
  • Often works in confined spaces and all types of indoor and outdoor elements.
  • Mechanical aptitude, good math, verbal and written skills, ability to comprehend.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and layout jobs, according to drawings, specifications, Code requirements, etc.
  • Provides cost estimates for electrical and data(low voltage) projects.
  • Bedside Patient Nurse Call system\wiring troubleshooting
  • Televisions (patient rooms & common areas)
  • Installs and maintains various low voltage wiring (Includes various analog devices.Cisco VG450 configuration and support, CAT6, CAT5, RJ11, fiber-optic cabling, and overhead speaker cabling).
  • Removes unused wire, repairing improperly run wire according to Building wiring codes, etc.
  • Maintains and repairs amplifier powered overhead paging systems and all related components.(speakers, wiring, amplifier, etc,)
  • Installation of outlets, pulling cable, fire stopping and termination including organizing, dressing and labeling cables to industry standards
  • Perform site surveys, read and use blueprints and floor plans and conduct visual site inspections.
  • Determine closet and equipment layouts and install closet hardware including backboards, connecting blocks, racks, patch panels, fiber enclosures and communications equipment.
  • Install cabling support systems including ladder racks, cable trays and J-Hooks.
  • Install equipment grounding and bonding systems as per standards.
  • Isolates electrical problems using testing instruments.
  • Examines and tests distribution panel controls, circuits, fixtures, motors, etc. to locate faults/malfunctions.
  • Replaces defective/worn parts, and installs new electrical controls, switches, contractors, wiring and lighting systems and other electrical and electronic systems.
  • Makes changes and alterations in existing electrical systems; including rerouting and redesigning of circuitry.
  • Checks all electrical systems for proper operation, including high voltage lines , emergency generator equipment, Operating Room conductivity, etc.
  • May be assigned primary responsibility for installation, repair and maintenance of hospital fire alarms and associated systems and equipment
  • Check alarms for proper reset after use.
  • Performs related duties.
  • As required, consult with vendors' or manufacturers' service representatives to expedite and/or coordinate installation, maintenance and repair activities.
  • Assists in the planning of projects and repairs and maintenance of equipment.
  • Assists other trades by cooperating with co-workers to expedite jobs requiring more than one craft, and carries out assignments in other craft areas to the extent of capabilities and as circumstances require.
