Requirements

  • Must meet all Core Job Specifications.
  • Must have completed a recognized electrical apprentice program or technical school or have five (5) years of experience at the journeyman level as an electrician.
  • Must be knowledgeable and skilled to apply electrical practices to cope with problems arising from unique and unconventional equipment, facilities, and systems used in support of aircraft research activities and space launch ballistics, including clean room, payload checkout facilities, laboratory setups, and vibration test facilities, environmental chambers, gun mounts, radar, telemetry, photographic and data acquisition and reduction equipment.
  • Must read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics and be cognizant of current electrical codes, standards, and safety practices, and the latest materials, tools, and techniques used in performance of electrical practices.

Responsibilities

  • Adds or removes components, effects design changes, modifies, repairs, and improvises to fill unforeseen and immediate needs; overcomes unprecedented operational difficulties, provides redundant power sources, devise methods of cycling, timing, sequencing, filtering, and controlling AC and DC current of varying voltages and frequencies.
  • Locates and remedies malfunctions occurring during the critical countdown stages when loss of a circuit or system would impair the mission.
  • Performs periodic ground check evaluations, corrects faults, and installs extensive grounding systems particular to explosives handling, aircraft operations, and space launch activities.
  • Modifies, redesigns, and installs electrical power systems, power supplies, converters, generators, timing and synchronizing devices, photoelectric cells, filters, governors, step controllers, electronic programmers, relays, transformers, and voltage regulators, to meet the needs of the customer, which may be foreign made equipment of different frequencies and/or voltages other than those of American design.
  • Inspects, repairs, and installs electronic controls, programmers, and safety devices as used in the operation of machine tools, high and low pressure boilers, and pumping systems.
  • Services and troubleshoots various types of servo systems; mechanical, electrical and electronic devices and control systems; installs, repairs, and maintains overhead and underground electrical feeders, control, instrumentation, and communications cabling from very low control voltages to 480 volts.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs components of secondary distribution systems consisting of transformer oil and air circuit breakers, capacitors, fused cutouts, overload trip devices, bus bars, and other vital equipment much of which is exposed to harsh environments.
  • Inspects, tests, evaluates, repairs, and regulates gasoline, diesel, and turbine engine¬ powered electric generating units from 25 to 750 KW used as primary power sources for projects locally and throughout the world. Such units must have a high degree of reliability and precise control.
  • Performs shop work in testing, evaluating, and repairing electrical motors, switches, transformers, electronic programmers, power tools, etc.
