About The Position

Eaton is seeking an Electronics Engineering Technician to work together with the Advanced Technology team on early phase technology platforms used in low voltage and medium voltage circuit breakers and switching products for the Protection, Control and Solutions business. The role will be located in Moon Township, PA. The Electronics Engineering Technician will work in the PCS Advanced Technology labs to build and perform electronic and electromechanical testing on engineering prototypes and production samples under the direction of design/research engineers. Additional responsibilities include documenting test plans, recording data, and providing detailed written test reports. The candidate will also perform other functions as necessary to support all research and prototyping activities including parts acquisition and capital project execution.

Requirements

  • 2 year degree in electrical, electronic technology or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a technical role
  • Electronic, mechanical, electro-mechanical, and software aptitude is required

  • Surface mount assembly and rework skills
  • Familiarity operating high current, high voltage sources
  • Basic knowledge of circuit breakers and related testing
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel/Word

Responsibilities

  • Ability to understand electrical circuits and mechanical drawings while working with design engineers
  • Build engineering prototypes and set-up lab tests per engineer’s instructions
  • Collect, record, and plot test data in an organized fashion
  • Perform preliminary analysis of test data in lab
  • Successful programming and setting of parameters in microcontrollers for use in testing
  • Electrical proficiency- work with appropriate tools to modify or assemble electrical assemblies including wiring, wire harnesses, PCBA’s as well as overall component assembly
  • Test equipment: knowledge and ability to use oscilloscopes, power supplies and other standard lab equipment
  • Establish a working knowledge of standard test procedures. Fully understand the capabilities, use, and care of available test equipment.
  • Develop automated test programs and systems, when appropriate, to streamline and standardize re-occurring tests. Furnishes documentation so that test system can be maintained and used by others. This may include PLC based systems, or PC based systems combined with cloud-based API calls for triggering actions.
  • Lead, direct, coordinate, and bring successful closure to specific assignments. Use invention, imagination, creativity, and resourcefulness during the course of assigned work.
  • Plan and coordinate purchasing to support installation of new equipment infrastructure for development test labs based on test requirements or gaps in testing capabilities.
  • Maintain equipment by coordinating or driving repairs or calibration.
