About The Position

Job Summary: The Emergency Medical Technician provides out of hospital emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients, including non-emergency/routine medical transports to life threatening emergencies. Additional Department Summary: Functions as part of a comprehensive EMS response system, under medical oversight. Completes incident reports in a timely and accurate manner.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must be licensed as an Emergency Medical Technician by the State of Alabama.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR/AED First Aid certification, or ability to obtain upon hire.
  • Must be able to lift/push up to 200 pounds; this position will assist in the evacuation of sick and injured persons during an emergency.
  • Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
  • Working knowledge of the University of Alabama campus and surrounding area.
  • Functional understanding of basic equipment typically found on an ambulance.
  • Functional understanding of communications equipment, including telephone, 2-way radios, and recording equipment.
  • Excellent clinical, organizational, and administrative skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and health care professionals.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of protected health information and the requirement to follow HIPPA regulations at all times.
  • Ability to cope with stressful conditions.
  • Ability to demonstrate tact, versatility, and adaptability.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high degree of self-motivation and directional initiative.
  • Working knowledge of data entry and Microsoft Office.
  • Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making.
