About The Position

Responsible for emergency management, fire protection, life safety compliance, and emergency services programs across North American facilities. Provides technical leadership, develops internal written standards, and partners with internal/external stakeholders to minimize risk, ensure emergency preparedness, and support enterprise safety objectives. Primary responsibilities include reducing risk of fire and life‑safety incidents; improving fire protection and emergency response programs; ensuring compliance with codes, standards, and insurance requirements; and supporting SH&E functions through advisory and training programs.

Requirements

  • 10-15 years experience in emergency management, fire protection, code enforcement, or closely related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Fire Safety Engineering, related discipline, OR equivalent combination of advanced training/certifications and 10+ years progressively responsible experience.
  • Experience in emergency response, incident command, hazardous materials operations, and industrial emergency services.
  • Practical knowledge of Fire Code, Building Code, NFPA Standards, OSHA (Federal and California), as well as related fire/life safety regulations.
  • Familiarity with fire protection systems, including alarm systems, sprinkler suppression systems, special extinguishing systems, and industrial  fire systems.
  • Strong project management and cross‑functional coordination skills.
  • Clear, concise verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to build effective relationships across all leadership levels.
  • Organized, proactive, and able to operate autonomously with integrity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; project management tools preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in chemical, pharmaceutical, or other high‑hazard industrial environments preferred.
  • Personnel management experience preferred.
  • Advanced training or certifications in emergency response, fire protection systems, life safety, or related specialties may substitute for some educational requirements.
  • NIMS / FEMA Incident Command training preferred.
  • Fire Inspector I/II, Fire Plans Examiner, Fire Officer, Fire Instructor (ICC, NFPA, or state equivalent)
  • Hazardous Materials Specialist or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Lead division emergency management, fire protection, and life‑safety programs across North American sites.
  • Oversee Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Team, subsequent site programs, and fire protection systems management, including inspection/testing/maintenance/insurance reviews.
  • Direct emergency planning and preparedness, including plan development, maintenance, and readiness activities, including the planning and preparation required based on new products, processes, and equipment.
  • Serve as primary liaison with local, regional, and state emergency response agencies.
  • Support and conduct incident investigations and emergency response activities, including providing objective post-incident analysis, supporting Incident Command during emergencies, and leading corrective action development and implementation as needed.
  • Manage high risk permitting such as hot work, Integrated Contingency Plans, Emergency Action Plans, and disaster recovery programs, including appropriate review frequencies, engaging with stakeholders, and making updates as necessary.
  • Develop and deliver training on emergency response, fire protection, safety operations, and life‑safety topics across the organization.
  • Coordinate with contractors, employees, and local agencies on confined space rescue, hazardous materials response, and other emergency programs.
  • Ensure required documentation and recordkeeping systems are maintained for the relevant managed programs.
  • Support and participate in regulatory, customer, and insurance inspections, audits, and compliance initiatives, including facility inspections, fire protection systems, lifesaving equipment, design reviews, and oversight of facility modifications, equipment installations, hazardous materials storage/use, and fire protection system upgrades to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
  • Analyze fire protection needs, prepare proposals, and advise leadership on risk‑reduction strategies for existing infrastructure as well as new projects.
  • Manage budgets, schedules, and resource allocation for emergency services programs.
  • Provide technical and administrative leadership related to fire protection, emergency response technologies, and operational readiness.
  • Recommend policy changes and establish operational procedures that affect multi‑level functional groups.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
