About The Position

The Emergency Services Manager is responsible for the overall planning, organizing, implementing, and controlling of all unit activities including nursing care, interdepartmental relationships, direction of department personnel as well as patient care and physician relations with the departmental activities. The Director will proactively participate in processes to guide patient care in the most efficient, productive, cost-effective manner possible, while ensuring high quality care. Is also responsible for the management of staff, meeting fiscal requirements, and compliance with accreditation organizations, along with Federal and State regulations.

Requirements

Graduate of accredited nursing school
Three years of emergency nursing experience preferred.
Ability to pass specific competencies for this position.
Ability to work under pressure with tight time constraints.
Better than average human relations and organizational skills
Maintain current Illinois RN Licensure
Associate Degree in Nursing required.
Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
CPR, ACLS, PALS, TNCC or TNS required, or be willing to obtain.

Maintain confidentiality of all patients, hospital, or physician related information
Focuses on quality standards.
Create and participate in department and hospital performance improvement.
Follows guidelines of safety (incident reporting) and staff health/infection control (illness reporting)
Is knowledgeable of general hospital and department specific policies and procedures and assist with their review and updates.
Ensures that the hospital Compliance Plan and all governmental rules and regulations are followed.
Schedules and attends monthly meetings with VP to review Monthly Meeting agenda.
Completes LEM 90 day plans timely.
Able to direct, delegate, initiate, coordinate, organize, set priorities, and evaluate personnel work assignments.
Participates on committees, and special projects.
Clearly identifies and responds to internal and external customer needs and requests.
Works to exceed customer satisfaction.
Monitors Patient Satisfaction Survey results and implements plans to meet patient-satisfaction goals.
Generates confidence and sense of value in customer interaction.
Able to create, implement, and evaluate goals and objectives, policies, and standards for department, as well as staff development.
Applies the principles of time management, conflict resolution, problem-solving, and delegation.
Develop good relationships with executive management, department managers, supervisors, and staff.
Maintain knowledge and skills necessary to communicate and interact with patients, visitors, and staff in the following age groups: Infant, Pediatric/adolescent, Adult, Geriatric
Delivers and/or oversees nursing care according to the Standards of Care defined within Illinois Nurse Practice Act.
Assures all nursing staff members are competent to fulfill their assigned responsibilities.
Is available for evening and weekend nurse manager on-call rotation.
The ability to work in the nursing role to ensure the department has staffing to meet the needs of the patients and the organization.

Conducts regular performance evaluations of direct report staff per policy time limits.

Remains knowledgeable and compliant with reimbursement, compliance and billing issues affecting the department.

Schedules department hours to meet the needs of the patients and customers served, while maintaining appropriate productivity levels
Initiates methods of cost containment.
Assists with staff development by coaching and mentoring in a supportive, professional manner.
Provides for professional growth of staff through identification of needs, facilitation of educational efforts, and evaluation.
Conducts monthly staff meetings, provides staff in-services.
Schedules staff to attend CPR and complete Annual Competencies.
Attend and pass nurse competency annually and/or as requested.
Schedules staff to attend Quarterly Meetings
Supports peers and those in managerial roles by “managing up” in conversations with staff.
Builds relationships and teams for the achievement of goals.
Creates developmental opportunities so that others can grow.
Anticipates future trends and consequences.
Initiative-taking in requesting necessary direction / education to complete assignments.
Utilizes critical thinking processes to resolve issues in accordance with hospital philosophy.
Assist in development and guide implementation of the departments and the facility’s marketing plan.
