About The Position

QuidelOrtho is looking for an Emerging Technology Intern that wants to spend their summer of 2026 working towards our mission: Changing Lives, One Test at a Time. Interns will have the opportunity to gain knowledge and develop their skills all while contributing to key company projects and initiatives. Our team will help students apply their educational background and broaden their knowledge base within their role and learn more about working in the medical device/biotech industry. Interns will work with a mentor(s) on a guided and impactful project and will be able to collaborate with and be part of a supportive and dedicated team. The Emerging Technology Intern will support the development and implementation of internal software solutions, including AI-powered applications, web development and cloud-based systems. The role will involve contributing to projects such as API integrations, web applications and Azure/AWS serverless functions. Working closely with cross-functional teams, the intern will gain hands-on experience in full-stack development, cloud computing and modern software architecture. This position provides an opportunity to enhance programming skills, learn industry best practices and contribute to real-world software products that drive business value. This Internship is a full-time (40 hours per week) paid program for 10-12 weeks. Session 1: June 1st through August 31st Session 2: July 6th through September 21st Office Location: San Diego, CA- Students must be in the area for duration of the program. QuidelOrtho is unable to provide housing accommodations.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with programming languages (Python, Java, C/C++) and cloud platforms (AWS, Databricks).
  • Fundamental knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and software development principles.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn version control systems (Git), databases or web development frameworks.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills with a passion for innovation and technology.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate in a dynamic team environment.
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Student must start on June 1st or July 6th
  • Must be able to complete a consecutive 10-12 week internship
  • Must have work authorization in the United States at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Agile/Scrum development processes and testing frameworks.
  • Experience with data analysis, automation, AI/ML or emerging technologies through coursework, projects or internships

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain internal software solutions including web applications, integrations and cloud-based services.
  • Support proof-of-concept development and feature implementation for business applications.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Participate in weekly standups and development processes while contributing to code reviews, testing, and documentation.
  • Complete at least one end-to-end software POC project that addresses a specific business need and is ready for pilot development.
  • Create technical documentation for assigned features and/or projects.
  • Participate in the development lifecycle by contributing clean, functional code through proper Git workflows and collaborative code review processes.
  • The intern will present a PowerPoint presentation on his/her work to a cross-functional group.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
