About The Position

This position will be responsible for providing legal advice and guidance on a wide range of employment matters in an evolving environment. Primarily supporting Zoom’s North American workforce, this role will provide strategic and day-to-day employment law advice to HR, leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders across the Company. We're looking for a self-starter, problem solver, and business-minded legal partner who pays attention to the details! The Employment Counsel will join a talented and collaborative cross-border Employment Legal team. This role will report into the Associate General Counsel, Employment and will be located in either San Jose or Seattle.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of employment law experience, including at a reputable law firm.
  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Excellent knowledge of U.S. federal and state employment laws: prior international employment law experience.
  • Experience managing employment litigation and agency proceedings.
  • Highly responsive, collaborative and service-oriented attitude.
  • Detail-oriented and ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Good business judgment and sound decision-making.

  • Prior in-house experience or secondments.

Responsibilities

  • Providing strategic advice to the HR team on a broad range of employment issues. These include recruitment, hiring, disciplinary actions and terminations, complex leaves of absence and accommodations issues, compensation, contingent workers, HR policies and practices, and performance management.
  • Providing quick and pragmatic advice to the business on employment obligations in North America.
  • Providing advice on AI/employment related issues and monitor evolving laws in these areas.
  • In coordination with HR and Compliance, assisting with the creation of policies, standards and business procedures to comply with various employment laws and regulations.
  • Drafting and reviewing various types of employment agreements and separation agreements.
  • Managing pre-litigation and litigation disputes, with the assistance of outside counsel, as needed.
  • Handling EEOC and state agency charges.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with senior leaders, other members of the Legal Department, the People Experience team and with external employment counsel.
  • Staying up to date, and advise as needed, on legal developments across North America.
