About The Position

The Employment Specialist is responsible for developing and maintaining employer relationships, facilitating workshops, and connecting participants to unsubsidized employment opportunities aligned with their career pathways. This role supports the employment journey by preparing participants for interviews, tracking job leads, and collaborating with internal and external partners to ensure successful placements. The Employment Specialist is accountable for meeting job development benchmarks, maintaining accurate documentation, and contributing to overall program performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Administration, or a related field from an accredited institution, preferred
  • an equivalent combination of 1 year of Bachelor’s Level education, related training, and/or 2 years ’experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position in place of a degree.
  • minimum of 1 year of experience in job development, employer relations, or workforce development, or 2 years working with individuals facing employment barriers.
  • able to pass the required security screening with DOC for access to Rikers.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct career readiness workshops and resume writing within Rikers Island for participants transitioning into the community
  • Build, sustain, and expand professional relationships with 25-50 employers across industries to create a robust and diverse pipeline of job opportunities for program participants.
  • Conduct daily prospecting activities, totaling at least 25 activities a week, including cold calls, outreach visits, networking events, and digital engagement, to identify hiring needs and new employer partners.
  • Promote the value of partnering with Fedcap by explaining financial incentives, retention supports, and long-term business benefits associated with hiring program participants.
  • Collaborate with employers to design and coordinate hiring events, job fairs, and informational sessions that connect participants directly to viable career opportunities.
  • Serve as a key representative of Fedcap to the business community, ensuring all outreach reflects the organization’s mission, professionalism, and commitment to quality outcomes.
  • Achieve a minimum of 5 qualifying Job Placements per month where the job placement was the direct result of an employer partner relationship.
  • Track each participant’s progress from job search through placement, first-day onboarding, and up to one year of retention in collaboration with the Transition Manager.
  • Support participant's continued success by assisting with performance feedback, wage progression, and promotion opportunities.
  • Conduct employer satisfaction check-ins and respond promptly to issues impacting customer retention or performance.
  • Complete weekly reports on cold calls, field visits, and employer engagement in FedcapCARES.
  • Announce job leads weekly in workshops and follow up with facilitators on member referrals.
  • Enter 100% of member case notes and employment data into FedcapCARES and DOC tracking systems within 24 hours.
  • Support retention efforts by verifying employment data for placed participants.
