About The Position

Are you passionate about helping young adults with developmental disabilities find their path after high school? SAW, Inc.'s Next Steps program provides a structured, supportive environment for individuals transitioning into adulthood—whether they're pursuing employment, community involvement, or personal growth. We are seeking a dedicated Employment Transition Specialist to support our Next Steps program at our Beachwood Adult Activity Center. In this role, you will: Facilitate Next Steps programming on a weekly basis Accompany groups to community-based work or volunteer experiences Provide consistent support, modeling and coaching to help individuals build independence and confidence Required paperwork including daily documentation, vocational evaluations and assessments and other documents as assigned This position is ideal for someone who enjoys variety in their work, is adaptable, and is passionate about helping individuals prepare for successful transitions into employment and greater independence.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED (degree preferred)
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Computer literacy skills, including Windows applications, Microsoft Office, Smart Board, and basic database usage
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to motivate and empower individuals to build independence and confidence
  • Organized, flexible, able to problem-solve and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with the ability to arrive to work on time every day
  • Must be able to pass required background checks

Responsibilities

  • Guide individuals through their transition from high school to adulthood with a focus on employment readiness, personal development, and community/social engagement
  • Facilitate soft skills classes covering topics such as communication, teamwork, time management, workplace etiquette, and independent living skills
  • Ability to identify and establish partnerships with local businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations to create a range of paid work and volunteer trial opportunities
  • Facilitate and supervise community-based experiences such as job trials, volunteering, and career exploration
  • Support participants with resume building, interview preparation, and technology-based learning
  • Involve individuals in planning activities and oversee participation in activity
  • Plan and provide transportation to community outings in SAW vehicle
  • Build relationships with local employers, volunteer sites, and community partners to create inclusive opportunities
  • Foster a positive, respectful group dynamic while also addressing individual goals and needs
  • Assist individuals to learn strategies and provide support to manage conflicts
  • Maintain accurate documentation of participant progress and program activities
