About The Position

This position makes supervisory level decisions including daily allocation of personnel and resources within established policy and procedure. Regularly staffs an ambulance. This position is accountable for all areas of the “Rural Healthcare Paramedic” job description with the additional items: This job description is intended to identify some of the primary duties and responsibilities. MAYERS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL DISTRICT reserves the right to modify, supplement, delete or augment the duties and responsibilities specified in this position description, at MAYERS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL DISTRICT’S sole and absolute discretion.

Requirements

  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • CA Paramedic certification required.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in high performance EMS service preferred.
  • A self-starter requiring no oversight.
  • Must possess an ability to make critical decisions based upon objective findings.
  • Must be able to handle customer and employee complaints using established guidelines and common sense.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be adaptable to a variety of working conditions and situations.
  • Must have an intimate knowledge of company policy and procedure, as well as local and state regulations that govern EMS.
  • Professional behavior is demonstrated, both when on duty and as a representative of MMHD outside of normal work hours.
  • Ability to work with others, at all levels within the organization, and collaborate effectively.
  • Above-average interpersonal, problem-solving, and written and oral communication skills.
  • A positive working relationship with patients, visitors, and facility staff is demonstrated.
  • Organizational ability and time management is demonstrated.
  • Produces deliverable products on time, within budget with minimal direction.
  • Demonstrates the ability to compile and organize data using Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Ability to make appropriate recommendations or conclusions, given the data obtained.
  • Maintains an organized set of records, upon request, for the functions that are performed within the scope of this job.
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to directors, managers, and coworkers.
  • Performs all assigned tasks accurately, to include proper spelling and grammar, reference materials, and minimal mathematical calculation.
  • Takes direction from others to include those employees of other departments with which he/she works on a temporary basis in accordance with the chain of command.
  • Maintains all information as confidential as appropriate, to include payroll, material produced for union negotiations, personnel information, and other information obtained during the course of performing job duties that is confidential.
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively use office machines in the performance of job functions.
  • Answers phone calls, assists public, and forwards appropriately if necessary and in a professional and friendly manner.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with hospital medical providers, staff, administration and customers to ensure that a high level of cooperation and transparency are met at all times.
  • Provides a catalyst for absolute professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, and competency with patients, their families, the public, other agencies, coworkers, and management.
  • Ensuring employees understand their duties or delegated tasks.
  • Monitoring employee productivity and providing coaching, mentoring, performance reviews, constructive feedback and/or corrective action as needed.
  • Set goals and ensure compliance with the Company's vision and mission.
  • Minimize lost unit hours by continuously monitoring the schedule.
  • Cooperate with other members of management in correcting scheduling problems.
  • Ensures peak system performance by continuously monitoring the system via direct observation and contact with Dispatch Communications Center(s), and/or monitoring all appropriate radio frequencies while working in the field on an ambulance.
  • Notifies Senior Management and summons additional resources via established procedures and when appropriate when not covered in procedure.
  • Complete daily and monthly reports as required.
  • Handle crew and customer complaints via approved methods.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to crew members as necessary.
  • Evaluate, approve and coordinate requests and appropriate means of transport for LDTs, Neonatal transfers, and special events coverage as per established criteria.
  • Work with surrounding agencies to coordinate mutual and auto aid request when necessary.
  • Work with the Manager and Health and Safety & Security Officer on special and/or ongoing projects.
  • Act as a preceptor/FTO as needed. (All responsibilities of FTO/PRECEPTOR apply)
  • Assist with developing new employee orientation programs as well as assisting with the actual orientation as needed.
  • Drives and operates ambulances and other company vehicles safely, in accordance with established emergency driving guidelines.
  • Maintain currency of all required certifications and licenses.
  • Maintain and improve EMS leadership skills by reading books and periodicals, and by attending classes, meetings and seminars.
  • Provide consistent, high quality prehospital care as outlined by the local EMS Protocols, and accepted local and national treatment doctrines.
  • Provides an exemplary, safe, professional and courteous demeanor at all times.
  • Balance resources between ground, air, and other operation areas as necessary to serve the overall goals of the organization.
  • Prepare and process Time and Attendance reports for the payroll department.
  • Seek advice from other managers when appropriate.
  • Dedication to the commitment of self-improvement and life-long learning.
  • Provides feedback to management for improvement of working conditions, patient care, and system performance.
  • Responsible for timely, legible, highly accurate record keeping.
  • Assumes the role of educator for the public, students, and coworkers.
  • Must be able to work overtime as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned; including CQI, special projects, Team Lead, and Administrative Supervisor (non -field) assignments.
  • Processes and submits ambulance billing in a timely manner in coordination with the billing department
  • Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and professional.
  • Completes annual education requirements if applicable.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements.
  • Wears identification while on duty.
  • Attends annual evaluation and participates actively in this process.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time.
  • Attends all meetings as appropriate.
  • Exhibits the mission, ethics and goals of Mayers Memorial Hospital District in the performance of job duties.
  • Willingness to work beyond normal working hours and in other positions temporarily when necessary.
  • Is involved with personnel, visitors and government agencies, etc., when necessary.
  • Must function independently, have personal integrity, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with other personnel, clients and support agencies.
