About The Position

Medtrans Ambulance is seeking a motivated and experienced EMS professional to join our Operations team as an EMS Training Coordinator. This position is responsible for the coordination, delivery, documentation, and monitoring of training programs for ambulance field personnel, ensuring compliance with company policies and all applicable local, county, and state regulations. The EMS Training Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting operational readiness, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and continuous improvement. This position works closely with Operations leadership, the Director of Safety & Risk Management, and other departments to ensure training initiatives align with organizational goals and patient care standards.

Requirements

  • Valid California EMT license or Valid California Paramedic license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider card issued by the American Heart Association
  • Medical Examiner’s Certificate (DOT physical), current and valid
  • Ambulance Driver’s License (ADL), current and valid
  • Valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to obtain and maintain county accreditation in Los Angeles County, Ventura County, and/or Orange County, as required by operational assignment
  • Ability to maintain all required licenses, certifications, and continuing education in good standing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor certification (American Heart Association or equivalent), required within six (6) months of hire
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Working knowledge of California EMS regulations, training requirements, and accreditation processes
  • Understanding of BLS patient care standards, documentation requirements, and QA/QI principles
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly instruct, coach, document performance, and communicate expectations across all levels of the organization
  • Ability to objectively evaluate field performance, documentation quality, and training compliance
  • Ability to communicate feedback in a professional, respectful, and constructive manner
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Operations and Safety & Risk leadership
  • Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment when addressing training, performance, and compliance matters

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience as a Field Training Officer (FTO), Preceptor, Supervisor, or Educator strongly preferred
  • Higher education in EMS, healthcare, education, or a related field preferred
  • Experience with ePCR systems, training databases, LMS platforms, or compliance tracking tools preferred

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, deliver, and support classroom, field, and remedial training programs for ambulance personnel in accordance with Medtrans policies and applicable local, county, and state regulations.
  • Support onboarding, continuing education, and remediation training for new and existing field employees.
  • Ensure training content and delivery align with operational standards, safety objectives, and patient care requirements.
  • Oversee the Field Training Officer (FTO) program to ensure consistent, high-quality training and evaluation of field personnel.
  • Coordinate FTO assignments and support FTOs in their instructional and evaluative roles.
  • Review FTO documentation and evaluations for accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
  • Identify trends, gaps, or concerns within the FTO program and recommend improvements or retraining as needed.
  • Participate in the Quality Assurance / Quality Improvement (QA/QI) process for BLS Patient Care Reports (PCRs/ePCRs) in coordination with the Director of Safety & Risk Management and Operations leadership.
  • Review BLS PCRs for documentation accuracy, timeliness, protocol adherence, and regulatory compliance, and identify training-related trends or deficiencies.
  • Conduct ride-along field evaluations with ambulance crews to observe patient care, documentation practices, and adherence to operational and clinical standards.
  • Utilize QA/QI findings and ride-along observations to provide coaching, education, and targeted training or FTO follow-up.
  • Document QA/QI reviews field observations and incorporates findings into training plans and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Proctor Physical Agility Testing (PAT) for employment candidates in coordination with the Director of Safety & Risk Management, ensuring safe administration, accurate documentation, and timely reporting of results and concerns.
  • Monitor training compliance, certification status, and continuing education requirements for EMS personnel.
  • Track training completion and report compliance status, deficiencies, and overdue requirements to the Director of Safety & Risk Management.
  • Support internal and external audits related to training, certifications, and operational readiness.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Scheduling, Human Resources, and Safety & Risk Management to define training requirements and timelines.
  • Identify opportunities to improve training processes, documentation practices, and compliance tracking systems.
  • Maintain professional, effective communication with field staff, leadership, and training stakeholders.
  • Evaluate training compliance and recommend retraining, remediation, or removal from duty for training-related deficiencies, in coordination with the Director of Safety & Risk Management.
  • Escalate training, compliance, or performance concerns that present operational or safety risk.
