About The Position

This position is for an Academic Advisor I in the College of Engineering to advise students concerning their academic plans, progression toward degree, class schedule, choice of major, career goals, and other academic activities to assist the student in making decisions concerning personal education goals leading to graduation. A successful candidate will possess an understanding of how students benefit from a developmental advising approach and will exhibit a high ethic of care and desire for student success.

Requirements

  • This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in any academic field with a minimum of one year of experience at an academic institution or in a professional career field.
  • Work experience may not be substituted for the Bachelor's degree requirement for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with the college academic advising staff and academic departments across campus, and the other colleges at USF to advance the enrollment and productivity goals of the college and university. Monitor and requests adjustments to student records according to the academic guidelines established by the college and USF for degree completion. Assist with the engineering orientation course. Advise and support with at-risk students.
  • Advises new and continuing transfer students in the College of Engineering. Facilitate registration and declaration of major for new FTIC and transfer students. Assist with the Orientation program and advise students at First Time in College (FTIC) and transfer orientations.
  • Makes recommendations regarding issues such as course selection and hours taken per term based on student's professional goals, interests, and previous academic performance. Interprets and formulates SUS/USF/and College policies and procedures as related to student advising and student's participation in university life.
  • Evaluates IB/AP/CLEP scores and previous academic work of FTIC and transfer and preparatory/remedial students to insure proper placement in USF courses and to determine how course work can be applied toward satisfying academic work at USF. Communicates and clarifies the results of evaluation to individual students or potential students.
  • Supervise up to 20 students. Assist with learning teams and the engineering learning communities, summer programs, and Foundations of Engineering course (EGN 3000).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
