About The Position

The AWS Professional Services organization is a global team of experts that help customers realize their desired business outcomes when using the AWS Cloud. We work together with customer teams and the AWS Partner Network (APN) to execute enterprise cloud computing initiatives, delivering focused guidance through our global specialty practices across various solutions, technologies, and industries. The mission of the DoD Engagement Management team is to "Deliver with Excellence: PLAN, EXECUTE, CONTROL, BUDGET, STAFF, and COMMUNICATE with Excellence." We're seeking a highly skilled and versatile Senior Engagement Manager to lead the delivery of complex cloud solution projects that make a real difference for our Department of Defense customers. Requirements

  • 3+ years of cloud computing experience
  • Experience in project management of technical programs
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret or above
  • 1+ year of hands-on experience in Agile and implementation of project management tool sets (Confluence, Jira, RallyDev, VersionOne, Taiga, etc.) and source code management products.
  • 1+ years of professional work experience, or experience with AWS services or other cloud offerings
  • Knowledge of AWS services

Nice To Haves

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) and/or AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate -
  • Experience applying AWS frameworks like Well-Architected and Cloud Adoption Framework -
  • Proven ability to establish technical credibility with engineering teams and senior technical decision-makers -
  • Experience supporting National Security mission systems, and the ability to represent AWS within the customer's environment, driving discussions with senior personnel regarding trade-offs, best practices, project management, and risk mitigation. -
  • Hold at least one active project management certification, understand the value proposition of the public cloud and has delivered cloud engagements, presented to C-level executives and technical subject matter experts, balanced multiple stakeholders, and managed projects with 10+ resources, 6+ months, or $250k+ in contract value.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical functional teams composed of AWS, customer, and partner members
  • Apply Engagement Manager best practices for delivery quality, engagement security, and sales-to-delivery transitions
  • Facilitate release planning to align customer outcomes, set priorities, build roadmaps, identify risks, and organize workstreams
  • Validate scope to create engagement schedules, financials, and outcomes consistent with contracts
  • Establish and enforce AWS ProServe Security Standards and Quality Mechanisms (e.g., Model Change Management)
  • Develop understanding of engagement stakeholders and build effective relationships
  • Discuss conditions of acceptance, contractual scope, financials, and timelines
  • Leverage stakeholder relationships to drive timely decisions
  • Escalate engagement issues effectively to internal and external stakeholders
  • Support workshops and facilitate team collaboration
  • Develop and deliver cloud strategies that establish technical capabilities driving business outcomes
  • Define and clarify business and technical requirements, mapping them to customer objectives
  • Employ multiple frameworks (Waterfall, Agile, Scaled Agile, ITIL, CAF, WAF) and product management principles
  • Explain AWS products and services to help customers define and implement solutions
  • Participate in architectural reviews and identify when principal reviews are required
  • Validate that technical solutions meet business objectives and engagement goals
  • Help teams foresee and manage risks and issues
  • Work to resolve root causes of difficult customer or internal problems
  • Ensure solutions are consistent with framework recommendations
  • Make appropriate data-driven decisions and communicate these to leadership and customers
  • Identify and resolve resourcing needs and delivery gaps
  • Help onboard team members and establish team ways of working
  • Hold team accountable for operational excellence (timesheets, reports, status updates)
  • Help recruit and participate in the interview process
  • Mentor and develop others to employ AWS engagement delivery best practices
  • Train new teammates on engagement delivery and customer business outcomes
  • Own engagement documentation
  • Lead continuous improvement activities
  • Identify gaps in AWS offerings and processes
  • Create and enhance assets to improve efficiency and promote adoption
  • Contribute to new capabilities and mechanisms (tools, delivery kits, best practices)
  • Improve team efficiency and cross-team processes through automation
  • Maintain appropriate certifications (AWS, agile practices, domain-specific, PMI)
  • Develop expertise in relevant technical domains (migration, database, healthcare, financial services)
  • Identify and work on pre-sales opportunities
  • Support and deploy partner solutions
