About The Position

This Engineer will develop concepts, strategy and tactical processes to create and sustain the operational data bases for the Transmission Management System (TMS)/ Distribution Management System (DMS). These systems are the real time control tools for the Transmission and Distribution networks.

Requirements

  • Programming skills with Structured query language (SQL) and scripting language is required.
  • Four year Engineering degree from an accredited University is required for all.
  • Knowledge in Power System Analysis & Operation is required.
  • Applicants must have or be able to attain North America Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) certification.
  • Two years experience of significant work with databases is required.
  • NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) certification required.
  • Working knowledge of Inter-Control Center Communications Protocol (ICCP)
  • Working knowledge of power system model definitions.
  • Functional knowledge of SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Aquisition) processing.
  • Six years experience of significant work with databases is required.
  • NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) certification required.
  • Good knowledge of utility operations, utility equipment, and design and construction techniques that produce the electric grid.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas is required.
  • Seven to Eight years experience of significant work with databases and minimum two years experience with TMS/DMS modeling is required.
  • NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) certification required.
  • Good knowledge of utility operations, utility equipment, and design and construction techniques that produce the electric grid.
  • Advanced/expert knowledge of the TMS/DMS editors used to define the database, displays, and reports.
  • Experienced knowledge of TMS/DMS configuration (domains, servers and their functions).
  • Advanced knowledge of ICCP (computer communication protocols).
  • Advanced knowledge of power system modeling (including CIM) and power system analysis.
  • Moderate knowledge of SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) processing.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and maintain the TMS/DMS models.
  • Troubleshoot and correct problems within the TMS/DMS models.
  • Ensure that maintenance of these models is accurate, timely and in accordance with all applicable North America Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC)  and Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) protocols.
  • Partner with TMS/DMS vendors on the implementation and testing of the system.
  • Develop methodology for implementing new modeling and/or new operational requirements in the TMS/DMS models.
  • Participate in corporate level activities to implement tools and processes for maintaining a high level of compatibility among models (operation, asset management, planning, system & protection, etc.).
  • Lead corporate level activities to implement tools and processes for maintaining a high level of compatibility among models (operation, asset management, planning, system & protection, etc.).
  • Represent corporate in industry standards committees or working groups.
