The engineer will have a role in reviewing high voltage, medium voltage, and low voltage substations civil design for all operating companies in Avangrid Networks with strong focus on high and medium voltage transmission projects in NYSEG and RGE service territories which are part of the PNY portfolio of projects, as well as in developing substation standards for AVANGRID. Write engineering specifications, create and maintain design libraries for substations including specifications and bill of materials/quantities. Work with administrative and general direction from supervision. Follow updates in research and developments taking place in the power industry, through training and industry associations. The engineer will work with teams/projects to solve complex substation equipment/design problems taking a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions. Participates and represents AVANGRID on Industry associations. Position reports to the Unit Manager but will work day-to-day in a cross functional project team and support project needs as directed by the project manager(s) & construction manager(s). The PNY projects originate from the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) which stems from New York State’s Climate Act with a goal to reduce economy-wide greenhouse gas emissions 40% by 2030 (no less than 85% of 1990 levels by 2050) and 70% State’s Energy from renewable resources by 2030 (100% from zero emissions Electric Sources by 2040). The electric delivery system in New York contains approximately 5,600 miles of transmission lines & 621 substations.
