About The Position

Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes. This position is for an electrical engineer in the A4W Propulsion Plant Engineering Activity (PPEA) supporting the maintenance, overhaul, and modernization of CVN68 Class Aircraft Carriers.  The successful applicant will be primarily responsible for supporting engineering efforts associated with the Interior Communications System including design, maintenance, and troubleshooting of networked sensor.  The candidate should be capable of applying technical expertise to develop solutions to complex problems for electrical equipment.  Responsibilities include project management, design, manufacturing oversight, qualification testing, technical analysis, deviation resolution, and technical leadership.  Must HaveBachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.D. and 4 years of experience. Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write technical documents clearly, accurately, and with technical rigor.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, including circuit analysis of networked sensors and control systems.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and computer skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and develop electrical schematics.
  • The ability to interface with a variety of organizations, including vendors, government representatives, shipyard engineering, and construction activities to develop, install, test, and troubleshoot electrical equipment.
  • The ideal candidate with have experience with one or more of the following: Salinity and temperature monitoring systems, radar tank level indication, common alarm panels, temperature and pressure sensor and computer networks.
