Our work is mission-critical, supporting the U.S. Navy and strengthening national security. We are seeking Experienced Mechanical / Components Engineers to join our Hull Planning Yard (HPY) Engineering organization. Department 495 is a multi-discipline organization responsible for supporting the current submarine fleet, which consists of delivered OHIO SSBN/SSGN, SEAWOLF, and VIRGINIA Class hulls. We provide operational availability and capability to the fleet through maintenance and enhancement activities. These activities include managing potential design changes to commissioned ships, developing documentation for class/ship modernization, and providing technical direction in support of emergent problems. This role is ideal for engineers who want to own technical decisions, mentor others, and see their work directly impact mission-critical systems in service today.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical, Aerospace, or Marine Engineering
  • 5+ years of post-graduate engineering experience performing requirements traceability, component selection, and vendor drawing review
  • Experience reviewing and approving work completed by junior engineers
  • Experience supporting submarine modernization and maintenance or similar projects
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance through the DoD
  • Capable of working independently while contributing to team objectives
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment
  • Highly self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical, Aerospace or Marine Engineering
  • Experience determining acceptability of proposed components to meet system-level requirements
  • Experience with submarine valves, propulsion support equipment, and auxiliary machinery
  • Experience evaluating mechanical interfaces with structural, fluid, and electrical systems
  • Experience reviewing design disclosures with Siemens Teamcenter
  • Experience conducting and reviewing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) – ABAQUS preferred
  • Experience working with public Navy Shipyards (PNSY, PSNSY, NNSY and PHNSY)

  • Providing technical oversight and review of engineering work to ensure accuracy, compliance, and quality
  • Mentoring and guiding junior engineers, fostering professional growth and knowledge transfer
  • Collaborating across disciplines and departments, ensuring alignment between design, analysis, and program requirements
  • Engaging and leveraging technical experts when needed to resolve complex issues
  • Leading and contributing to critical projects, taking ownership of deliverables and ensuring timely execution
  • Driving continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve methodologies and processes
  • Communicating effectively with stakeholders at all levels, translating technical concepts into clear actionable information
