About The Position

Responsible for the modeling of Seminole and the Member’s transmission system, including model maintenance, interpreting equipment specifications and test sheets into usable model information, and verifications. Conducts annual/periodic, and strategic transmission studies to ensure system reliability and supports the expansion of the transmission system, collaborating with the Seminole Members and diverse stakeholders that include Florida Reliability Coordinating Council, internal departments, and industry participants. The work includes, but not limited to, power flow analysis, voltage studies, short circuit analysis, stability/transient analysis, and implementation of regulatory reliability standards. Performs studies and analyses that reflect current and future transmission system configurations and recommends upgrades, system modifications and/or expansion to transmission system facilities based on load growth, generation interconnection, and identified reliability needs. The position analyzes data, reports and provides recommendations. Ability to lead initiatives and work with less supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution is required with a minimum of one and a half (1.5) years of planning/engineering experience in the electric utility industry or related practice.
  • Proficiency in applying higher-level engineering concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the development and review of electrical computer simulations models of transmission lines and substations for transmission planning databases
  • Supports the analysis of and development and review of innovative transmission plans to ensure safe, reliable, effective, and efficient operations of the electric transmission system
  • Coordinates with internal stakeholders on transmission interconnection studies and affected system studies for new generation that address system impacts, economics, and project execution scheduling
  • Provides input and support to other internal departments on transmission matters such as substation capacity increases, transformer upgrades and/or replacements, line conductor replacements, operations support, and reliability upgrades
  • Provides technical direction to other non-engineer technical professionals (e.g., designers, technicians, coops, etc.,)
  • Develops Python scripts enabled programs for computer simulation tools
  • Participates in initiatives, work groups and/or industry forums that supports the inclusion of Seminole’s interests
  • Participates in the power system steady-state contingency analysis, short circuit analysis, dynamic stability analysis and single point of failure analysis of the interconnected transmission system
  • Executes departmental, enterprise level, and industry required processes and procedures, including those required to demonstrate compliance with the NERC Reliability Standards and FRCC modeling requirements
  • Recommends changes in procedures, design or equipment to improve performance or efficiency
  • Participates in detailed technical analysis for the development of long-term transmission system expansion plans
  • Analyzes data, reports, and collaborates with colleagues on assigned tasks
  • Develops and delivers formal oral and written presentations which inform and persuade
  • Effectively communicates progress of projects to team per the RACI responsibilities methodology and delivers thoughtful feedback to others
  • Performs other duties as applicable to the position or as assigned
  • Performs NERC Compliance Program roles if/as designated in Seminole's Standard Ownership Matrix (SOM) including ongoing evidence retention in "audit-ready" form. You should also be familiar with Seminole's Enterprise Internal Compliance Program (ENT-GCD-RGC-EP-054) to further your understanding of Seminole's compliance program and your duties and responsibilities in the SOM.
