An Engineer II assigns and reviews the work of engineers or performs engineering work of an innovative, complex nature. Work of this class may involve leading engineers and supervising sub-professional engineering and other personnel. Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in an office where there are no uncomfortable working conditions. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

Requirements

Bachelor's of Science degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
Three years of experience in performing engineering work.
Knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
Knowledge of the methods of engineering analysis.
Ability to assign, review and approve the work of engineering personnel.
Ability to communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing.
Some positions in this class require an Engineer-In-Training certificate from the State of Maryland.
Some positions in this class require an Engineering Technologist certification from the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET).
Some positions in this class require current licensure as a Professional Engineer issued by the Maryland State Board of Professional Engineers or equivalent out-of-state license.
Some positions in this class require a valid Maryland Class C Non-Commercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit.

Responsibilities

Performs engineering work of an innovative, complex nature
Leading engineers and supervising sub-professional engineering and other personnel
Develop engineering plans, designs, specifications and material and cost estimates
Write technical reports
