An Engineer II assigns and reviews the work of engineers or performs engineering work of an innovative, complex nature. Work of this class may involve leading engineers and supervising sub-professional engineering and other personnel. Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in an office where there are no uncomfortable working conditions. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Three years of experience in performing engineering work.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of the methods of engineering analysis.
  • Ability to assign, review and approve the work of engineering personnel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing.
  • Some positions in this class require an Engineer-In-Training certificate from the State of Maryland.
  • Some positions in this class require an Engineering Technologist certification from the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET).
  • Some positions in this class require current licensure as a Professional Engineer issued by the Maryland State Board of Professional Engineers or equivalent out-of-state license.
  • Some positions in this class require a valid Maryland Class C Non-Commercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit.
