The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers’ missions. Our collaborative, cross-functional teams are committed to innovation, integrity, continual learning and strong execution. What You’ll Do: Design hardware for system and detailed circuit design for space-based, high-reliability electronic systems including. Modeling and simulation. Analysis (worst case circuit analysis, parts stress analysis, reliability, signal integrity, risk mitigation). Digital designs with architectures utilizing FPGAs, microprocessors, soft-core processors, digital filters, image processing algorithms, and high speed SERDES communication interfaces/protocols like XAUI, sRIO, PCIe, and SpaceWire for communication and data processing for a variety of sensors – focal planes, detectors, gimbals, phased arrays. Analog designs with architectures focusing on general analog, mixed signal, and power supply electronic design. Design and implement test fixtures including test plans for both chip-level and board level environments and create reusable circuits that can be utilized across multiple projects. Work with Parts Engineers to select and approve EEE parts to meet program requirements. Lead or support anomaly debug, determination of root cause, and corrective actions. Work closely with printed wiring board packaging and layout engineers. Interface with systems engineers to define functional and performance requirements. Lead electronics box integration and test for space-based, high reliability electronics systems including. Understand system level and box requirements. Flow down requirements to the printed wiring assemblies, FPGAs, and/or SW within the box assembly. Create the box architecture and electrical design. Guide and oversee printed wiring assembly and FPGA designs and interdependencies. Facilitate Electrical, Electronic, and Electromechanical (EEE) part choices and replacements. Ensure analyses are accurate and adequate to buy off requirements. Oversee box integration and support development of box test plans. Support and review Specific Test Equipment (STE) design. Verify test plan and procedures are accurate and adequate to buy off requirements. Lead or support anomaly debug, determination of root cause, and corrective actions. Provide Requirements Verification Matrix (RVM) and all other delivery documentation. Review the schedule and forecast the technical scope, then provide input to the project engineer about the box execution plan. Proactively identify schedule and technical risks and bring them to the program’s attention. Provide technical mentoring to early career engineers. Promote development of a strong team by participation in key aspects of the project and mentoring more junior team members. Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule. Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment. Perform other duties as necessary. On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
