About The Position

The Engineering Apprentice is ideal for someone who wants to develop strong practical engineering skills while gaining experience in fabrication processes, production planning, and technical procurement under an NQA-1 quality program. Working alongside experienced engineers, fabricators, and planners, you will contribute to hands-on workshop tasks as well as the administrative and digital systems that support manufacturing Gloveboxes for the DOE and other commercial customers in the nuclear sector. Works under direct supervision of the Engineering Fabrication Supervisor as a part of the engineering fabrication support team.

Requirements

  • Open to those with current enrollment in an educational program for an Engineering or other applicable Technical degree (w/hiring manager approval).
  • Well-rounded background in core mechanical engineering concepts and principles.
  • Candidate must possess strong computer knowledge and be familiar with standard Microsoft Office software in addition to SolidWorks, PRO/E, AutoCad or other drafting/modeling software. Solidworks strongly preferred.
  • Ability to write technical reports, correspondence, procedures, and processes.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to coordinate and communicate with outside suppliers.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents such as calculations, specifications and code requirements, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong manufacturing background in custom fabrication desired.
  • Familiarity or experience with Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1) standard strongly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Relay, Interpret, and document technical inquiries from fabricators and operations teams stemming from manufacturing issues.
  • Review of customer DCN’s to assess detailed technical changes used to develop change proposals.
  • Generate DCN’s and/or SDDR’s for internal review and disposition.
  • Make redline corrections to technical documents with proper authority and/or approval from the Project Engineer.
  • Enter, update, and maintain accurate data in the company’s ERP system.
  • Support the creation, tracking, and closure of work orders with other departments.
  • Assist in updating Work Orders as a result of Drawing, BOM and Traveler revisions.
  • Maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), routing steps, and job documentation.
  • Ensure revised BOM structures reflect correct materials, quantities, and revisions.
  • Communicate deviations or drawing updates to supervisors and engineering staff to keep records current.
  • Initiates purchase requisitions with proper authority and/or approval from the Project Engineer and supports purchasing team inquiries.
  • Assist in identifying suitable suppliers for BOM materials and components using the Approved Supplier List (ASL).
  • Assist supply chain by gathering technical specifications and part number identification for BOM items as needed.
  • Generate Part Level Production Travelers for projects ensuring all routing steps, material requirements, drawings, and quality checks are clearly defined.
  • Verify that travelers reflect the correct BOM, revision level, and process instructions.
  • Coordinate with engineering and fabrication staff to ensure travelers support smooth, efficient workflow on the shop floor.
  • Update travelers with redline notes, deviations, or changes as jobs progress
