About The Position

Participate in and perform engineering work involving responsibility for independent application of technical knowledge and skill to engineering problems in the field or office. Act as a member of a survey team and construction inspector of municipal engineering projects. Act on behalf of the Engineering Technician in his or her absence and perform related work as required.

Requirements

  • Ability to assemble, prepare and maintain correspondence, records, and reports.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with the public.
  • Ability to take direction and perform all duties assigned.
  • Engineering or construction background preferred
  • Degree from an accredited high school.
  • Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the preparation of layout work required for the paving of streets, alleys, sidewalks, parking lots and related structures.
  • Participate in the running of levels, lines and setting of grades for sidewalks, streets, alleys sewer mains, and water mains.
  • Inspect the work of contractors on municipal construction projects and enforce adherence to plans and specifications.
  • Be familiar with the operation of surveying and engineering equipment as required.
  • Participate in the performance of preliminary surveys for such engineering projects as streets, alleys, sewer and water mains, buildings, and other public improvements.
  • Respond to citizen complaints and concerns regarding streets, sewers, sidewalks and the water system. Ensure that appropriate action is taken.
  • Assist in the preparation of plans for municipal engineering projects.
  • Assist in creating contract documents for the construction of municipal engineering projects
  • Be familiar with AutoCad computer aided design/ drafting software and perform miscellaneous drafting as required.
  • Make blueprints, draw maps, plans and sketches from field notes and preliminary sketches.
  • Generate and maintain accurate engineering records and reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
