About The Position

Working in an integrated business model, the Engineering Project Manager is a pivotal leader accountable for the successful delivery of complex projects—on time, within budget, and to scope. You will provide specialized engineering expertise for constructability, risk assessment, and technical issue resolution. Your leadership will extend to leading project consultants, mentoring emerging talent, and representing the project in stakeholder meetings, with a critical focus on quality assurance, adherence to City of Edmonton standards (including PPMP), and oversight of change management and contract compliance for initiatives like the LRT Capital Line South Extension

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering
  • Must be a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in good standing and registered with APEGA. Applicants in a different Canadian jurisdiction eligible for Inter-Provincial Mobility (IPMA) with APEGA may be considered. Registration with APEGA must be obtained prior to commencement of employment
  • Minimum of 4 years of a combination of engineering and project management experience
  • Technical proficiency in construction processes (civil, structural, mechanical, or electrical disciplines) and working knowledge of relevant codes, legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures (e.g., OH&S, Environmental, Builders Lien Act)
  • Project management capability, including an understanding of Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) best practices, demonstrated planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven experience in multi-disciplinary teams in project delivery, managing external consultants, and possessing the ability and willingness to delegate and empower others
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills (including report writing and presenting), with experience in implementing public engagement processes, conflict resolution, negotiation, and fostering collaborative relationships

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework/training in project management; financial management; or other leadership training
  • Experience with different project delivery models including but not limited to, Design Bid Build, Design Build, Construction Manager at Risk, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the planning, design, and/or delivery of infrastructure projects, focused on Operation and Maintenance Facility (OMF), Stations, Traction Power Substations (TPSS) and Utility Complexes (UC)
  • Define project goals, objectives, and planned deliverables to ensure alignment with requirements
  • Manage, monitor, and report project milestones, ensuring projects remain on budget, on schedule, and within the defined scope and quality
  • Review comprehensive technical documentation, including feasibility studies, design reports, drawings, specifications, and operation/maintenance manuals
  • Perform thorough risk management activities for all projects
  • Develop and steward relationships with internal and external partners, and implement robust public/stakeholder engagement processes and communication plans in collaboration with Communications
  • Manage the procurement and contract processes, including the preparation of tender documents and review of proposals/bids
  • Direct and coordinate the work of consultants and contractors
  • Apply technical expertise to guide Engineering Consultants, ensuring appropriate specifications and standards are used, and proactively resolve complex technical issues
  • Document all project activities in accordance with the Project Management methodology, City policies, processes, and regulatory requirements
