About the role Job Summary The (Mechanical) Engineering Specialist is responsible for researching, designing, and developing mechanical systems and components. This role applies advanced engineering knowledge to support the development and testing of mechanical and electromechanical systems. This job profile is intended for specialist professionals that apply advanced knowledge of a job area. Required to manage projects / processes independently with limited supervision. Typically coaches and reviews the work of lower level professionals. SUMMARY: Performs and oversees the design of components, equipment, and systems. Utilizes modern 3D simulation environment to develop optimized concepts from a technical, performance, manufacturability and cost point of view. Ensures that design and engineering documentation is in accordance with customer and internal department requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent training and experience
  • Minimum eight (8) years of experience in the design of rotating equipment or has demonstrated equivalent experience in the field with proven examples of achievements.
  • Experience in industry with demonstrated capabilities in engineering analysis techniques used in the field of Mechanical Integrity and/or Hydraulic Design
  • Good interpersonal, communication and computer skills
  • Mechanical drafting skills using 3D CAD
  • Good math and analytical skills
  • Strong understanding of engineering concepts and application principles.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the elaboration of projects, regarding the completion of: preparation of design concepts, layouts and prototype testing of components, assemblies and equipment based on market and technical specifications, preparation of design layouts for assemblies and components.
  • Conducts numerical simulations as support for design concept elaboration, which could include: preliminary structural (static, dynamic, thermal) and/or rotor-dynamic analysis work as required.
  • small hydraulic design detail changes not drastically affecting pump performance.
  • Ensures that design details are cost effective, conform to customer requirements and company standards.
  • Verifies and validates work done by Drafters and Design Engineers.
  • Supports administrative functions, of the department, including order review, design review, and project team meetings.
  • Supports the technical activities of engineers.
  • Provides direction for designers, and drafters, in the execution of their assigned duties and takes responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of engineering work outputs.
  • Keeps current with latest Sulzer & industry analysis methods, tools, and capabilities
  • Adheres to company and department policies, procedures, and standards
  • Supports, cooperates with, and participates in company-wide safety program which includes following all safety policies and procedures
  • Supports and participates in company-wide LEAN effort
  • Performs other duties as assigned
