This posting is for an Engineering Technician I position in the Lexington Construction Resident Engineer’s Office. This position performs technical duties, while supporting engineers and other professionals in areas such as construction inspection, materials testing, project surveying, and program/regulatory compliance. Work functions may include inspection for compliance with contract documents, standards, and specifications, testing of materials, review of plans, analysis of engineering related data, and construction surveying/layout. Daily duties will include composing diaries of project operations, completing various material reports, performing construction calculations, documenting pay records, and computer/iPad entry. This position will also assist in all aspects of office engineering and assist the Resident Engineer. POS # 60020732 Additional Expectations: Must be able to communicate effectively with co-workers, contractors, and the general public. Ability to work safely in both office and outside environments with exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights, highway traffic, and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction. Must be able to perform moderate physical activity including but not limited to walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, standing, and able to lift 50 pounds. Employee will be assigned to various types of projects in Division 9. Must be able to work nights, weekends, as required, for projects assigned to within the Division. Must apply safety philosophy and program to all operations. Other duties include inspecting, ensuring work zone safety, and participating in snow & ice removal. Employee will be subject to emergency callback and inclement weather. The selected applicant will be expected to safety and legally operate a motor vehicle. Safety toe shoes are required.   • Associate’s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and/or construction surveying
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of computer equipment, including iPad and software
  • Experience maintaining standard daily records and reports
  • Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments
