About The Position

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As an Engineer Technician II, you will perform laboratory testing in support of product research, development, and design for heat exchanger components and systems. The technician sets up and conducts a range of tests—including thermal performance, fan performance, mechanical, structural, sound, and vibration testing—using established procedures with minimal supervision. Responsibilities include operating and calibrating test equipment, collecting and analyzing data, maintaining accurate records, preparing summary reports, and troubleshooting issues throughout the testing process. In addition to laboratory responsibilities, the technician supports purchasing activities, maintains facility equipment, and assists with environmental, safety, and maintenance functions. The role requires strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple concurrent tests, maintain data acquisition systems, and support field testing activities. The technician also interacts with customers during evaluations and may train other technicians as needed. This role encourages innovation and continuously improves efficiency of technical support, monitors advances of technology and competition, and supports global and acquisition-related technical issues in areas of expertise.

Requirements

  • Associate degree, technical certificate, or equivalent experience in mechanical, electrical, HVAC, or industrial technology
  • Results-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Working knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electronics/controls, and/or welding
  • General shop and mechanical skills with hands-on aptitude
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documentation

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating man lifts, cranes, forklifts, or scaffolding
  • Experience in laboratory, research, or industrial testing environments
  • Exposure to HVAC, refrigeration, or industrial manufacturing environments
  • Understanding of data acquisition systems
  • Experience operating/programming VFDs and/or PLC systems
  • Programming knowledge (e.g., Visual Basic, HP Basic, Quick Basic)

Responsibilities

  • Set up and execute tests according to established procedures; calibrate and verify instrumentation accuracy
  • Construct and design prototypes; read drawings and follow technical procedures
  • Document test processes, prepare data for engineering review, and write summary reports
  • Perform routine maintenance of laboratory and facility equipment; maintain data acquisition systems
  • Purchase project and facility materials and propose facility or process improvements
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (e.g., ANSI, ASTM, ISO, OSHA)
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and provide support for product development and field-testing activities
  • Communicate scheduling needs and workload conflicts while managing time independently
  • Train, mentor, and support technicians, interns, and cross-functional teams, including customer demonstrations
