This position is located in Guilford County in the McLeansville Resident Engineer’s Office. This is an Engineering Technician III position that will serve as a lead project inspector and will support higher level engineers in the administration of medium to large highway construction projects. Monitors daily progress of projects and resolves constructability issues to maintain project schedules. Direct and schedule the work of technicians in staking out and inspecting every phase of a construction project to ensure it is built according to plans and specifications in a timely and cost-effective manner. Manages all aspects of assigned construction projects with limited supervision from higher level engineers. May supervise and train multiple technicians, including Department employees and contract inspectors. Must be able to document and take corrective actions and apply safety philosophy and programs to all operations. Ability to complete daily diaries, survey notes and other record keeping items manually and electronically. Be able to perform construction related mathematical calculations. Applicant will be required to acquire various certifications, including QMS Asphalt, Concrete Testing, Borrow Pit Sampling and OSHA Certifications. Employee must be able to maintain these and all required certifications to perform the duties of this position. Ability to establish and maintain positive lines of communication between other technicians, engineers, contractors, and the general public. Work involves independent decision making and the use of judgement. Additional Expectations: Employee must be able to lift 50 pounds, work in high traffic areas, work at heights over water or traffic, work in extreme temperatures, traverse uneven terrain, and work at night and weekends if necessary. May be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as necessary. The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Safety toe footwear is required for this position. Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.
