About The Position

RFA Engineering (www.rfamec.com) is an engineering service provider dedicated to delivering our clients with timely engineering support and expertise. We are seeking an experienced candidate to become an integral part of our engineering team. The selected candidate will work with an experienced engineering staff using state-of-the-art engineering tools & processes. This position will operate onsite at our customer's world-class engineering and manufacturing facility. Engineering Technician - Mechanical Testing As an Engineering Technician you will support laboratory testing of mechanical systems and product designs. This role works closely with engineering and product development teams to perform testing focused on acoustics, vibration, durability, and structural reliability. The position plays a key role in validating new designs and supporting reliability improvements for existing products. This is a hands-on, lab-based role requiring mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to execute structured test procedures while documenting accurate results.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with 2–5 years of relevant hands-on mechanical experience, or Associate degree in Engineering Technology or related field
  • Strong mechanical aptitude (backgrounds such as mechanic, service technician, equipment technician, or similar are highly applicable)
  • Experience following structured test procedures
  • Experience with data acquisition systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with high-speed data acquisition
  • Experience performing applied mechanics or structural testing
  • Familiarity with measurement hardware and software systems
  • Experience with vibration, strain gage, or structural dynamics testing
  • Previous laboratory or product validation experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and non-routine laboratory tests supporting product development and reliability programs
  • Set up, operate, and maintain test equipment and instrumentation to collect accurate engineering data
  • Execute testing related to structural reliability, vibration, acoustics, fatigue, durability, thermal exposure, fluid immersion, acceleration, shaker tables, strain gages, and structural dynamics
  • Assist engineers and senior technicians with complex test setups, procedures, and troubleshooting
  • Follow established test procedures and provide detailed documentation of setups, observations, data, results, and test progress
  • Support fabrication, modification, maintenance, and repair of test fixtures and specialized lab equipment
  • Perform quality checks, calibration support, and general laboratory upkeep
  • Contribute to validation and qualification activities using standard engineering and laboratory practices
  • Support occasional field testing and continuous improvement of lab processes
