About The Position

We are seeking an Engineering Technologist to join our diverse and fast-paced organization. As a core team member, you will be interacting with other electric utility disciplines, performing engineering design work and calculations. You’ll be coordinating with permit agencies, right-of-way specialists, system owners, field leaders. You will provide and ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met, as well as conducting root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design. You’ll engage with technical design and Client standards, ensuring quality and timeliness of design deliverables for Leidos utility clients. Additionally, you will be asked to transfer over design details to the Leidos inhouse WMS platform from the clients WMS platform, to be used by the design teams. This role does require an individual to travel up to 75% of the time.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 0-1 years of related experience, Associates Degree or higher in engineering technology or related is preferred
  • Basic knowledge of engineering practices
  • Focus on safety
  • Attention to details
  • Willingness to perform duties at the office in a hybrid environment
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to travel, and do field work and ability to utilize your personal vehicle during Storm Duty assignments and Site Visits
  • Valid US Driver’s License
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Review work provided by Client and assess requirements of scopes
  • Create work orders in client software platform
  • Perform Cost Management
  • In times of low intake traffic, the engineer might be asked to perform QAQC work. This may include engineering calculations as: structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met
  • Travel to sites as needed, perform inspections and return to the office to perform engineering design work
