About The Position

Each position in the Engineering Technologist job family is responsible to the assigned manager to perform entry level to complex work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering technology knowledge in a safe, cost-effective and efficient way. What You'll Do: Technical Proficiency: Exhibits journey to advanced level proficiency plus unique knowledge that allows effective participation in recommended courses of action, and the achievement of satisfactory solutions to advanced technical problems. Leadership & Guidance: Leads project activity related to specific, unique, and/or highly specialized areas of engineering technology application. Leads, facilitates, and coordinates work activities of others within work group, team, department or other corporate entity as necessary, and assumes the role of project manager for assigned tasks. Coordinates and conducts training. Planning & Organization Ability: Reviews planned work of others when assigned. Organizes and leads special projects and task forces as assigned. Problem Solving & Initiative: Demonstrates superior problem-solving skills in area of specialization which earns expert recognition within the company. Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Projects credibility and competence on technical issues and has highly developed presentation skills. Networks throughout AEP, other companies, professional organizations, and regulatory agencies. Decision Making & Business Awareness: Possesses the knowledge to make technical decisions based on calculated risks with little or no management review. Understands how technical strategies and decisions impact the relationship with customers. Demonstrates the ability to make decisions affecting long-range plans and goals based on analysis of uncertain input and outcomes. Makes decisions where differences of opinion are likely to exist. Provides input into decisions which have an impact across organizational boundaries. Note: This vacancy is posted in a range and offers opportunities for advancement. The final grade and compensation offered will be determined based on the successful candidate's education, experience, and relevant skills. The minimum qualifications below are for Engineering Technologist Associate.

Requirements

  • This is an entry level position for new graduates with a Bachelor's degree in engineering technology in a program accredited by ABET
  • A degree in engineering technology is the preferred degree: however, engineering degrees will also be considered.
  • ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
  • Acceptable alternative is: (1) a Bachelor's degree in engineering technology (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering technology from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.
  • VP or above may waive the requirement for a degree from a university with an Non ABET accredited program
