About The Position

JOB TITLE: English Instructor REPORTS TO: Academic Dean – Humanities & Social Sciences DEPARTMENT: English & Foreign Language EXEMPT: Yes VICE PRESIDENT: Vice President of Academic and Transfer Programs GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION All Hinds Community College employees must commit to the Caring Campus approach to student engagement and daily apply these general behavioral objectives: listen to student questions and concerns with a positive attitude and make meaningful connections with students. The position is a primarily day-time position. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Master’s Degree in English or related field, with 18 graduate hours in English. Please attach a copy of your transcripts for review. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices. · Teach 15-17 hours of undergraduate classes in English each term · Academic advising of students · Manage course grading and records management · Contribute to department-wide program development and assessment · Participate in student recruitment and retention efforts · Participate in professional development activities and contribute to the general college community · Maintain regular, required office hours to be available and meet with students PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
