Position Summary: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit to strengthen the community. This is a part-time, limited hour position.

Requirements

  • CPR and First Aid certification required within 60 days of hire.
  • Team player, with superb interpersonal skills. An ability to work with co-workers and the public in a positive and friendly manner and resolve conflicts as needed.
  • Self-starter with the ability to multi-task, work independently and adapt to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn new software.
  • High School degree or GED, or working towards completion of high school.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs or Substitutes for Enhance Fitness classes, offered Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:15 until 11:45am.
  • Instruct evidence-based health initiative programming for members ages 55+, adhering to program curriculum and guidelines focused on chair mobility, functional movement, and strength development.
  • Expected weekly hours are 2-3, opportunities for additional hours when providing class substitutions.
  • Commits to the YMCA’s mission, vision, and values to promote healthy living, social responsibility and youth development.
  • Works with supervisor to create and implement procedures and/or programs and/or curriculum.
  • Works with program participants and volunteers to deliver safe, quality programming ensuring proper exercise and behavior techniques, modifications, and progression and adherence to all standards.
  • Creates an energetic and welcoming program experience that is encouraging and accessible, seeks participant feedback, and supports members in achieving their health and wellness goals.
  • Promotes YMCA programs and services to existing and potential members and recruits new participants.
  • Prepares adequately for class by setting up equipment in advance and ensures equipment is clean, sanitized, and functioning properly.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with participants and connects participants to the YMCA.
  • As a Mandated Reporter, recognizes signs of abuse or neglect and reports to supervisor and the appropriate authorities.
  • Performs other tasks and projects as assigned.
