About The Position

The Office of Strategic Enrollment Management is looking for an Enrollment Management Fellow to join our team. In this two-year, grant-funded, full-time fellowship, you will take on a meaningful, progressively expanding role in advancing Duke’s strategic priorities related to transfer pathways, community college partnerships, and regional enrollment pipelines — with particular emphasis on the Duke–Durham Technical Community College (Durham Tech) pathway. You will gain hands-on experience in strategic enrollment planning, cross-institutional partnership development, and access-oriented student success strategy through structured mentorship, exposure to senior leadership, and increasing levels of responsibility over the two-year term. This opportunity is designed for an early-career higher education professional eager to grow, lead, and make a tangible impact on access and student success at a leading research university.

Requirements

  • Generally requires a Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education, Education, Public Policy, Student Affairs, or related field preferred.
  • Require a minimum of one year of professional experience in higher education, nonprofit education, K–12 partnerships, student success initiatives, enrollment-related roles, or a related field OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Demonstrated interest in educational access, transfer pathways, enrollment strategy, or community partnership development.
  • Experience working collaboratively across teams or organizations.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills appropriate for academic and professional audiences.
  • Commitment to educational access, equity, and student success.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or higher is preferred.
  • Experience working with community colleges, transfer students, or pathway programs.
  • Familiarity with academic advising, admissions, or enrollment operations.
  • Experience supporting events, programs, or cross-functional initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Be paired with a senior SEM leader who will serve as primary mentor throughout the two-year appointment.
  • Participate in regular one-on-one mentorship meetings focused on leadership development, strategic thinking, and career trajectory.
  • Attend SEM planning meetings and selected institutional leadership convenings to build systems-level understanding of enrollment strategy.
  • Receive support for professional development, including conference participation and engagement with national transfer and access initiatives.
  • Present a capstone reflection or strategic analysis project at the conclusion of the fellowship.
  • Collaborate with SEM leadership to coordinate Duke’s partnership with Durham Technical Community College.
  • Support planning and execution of pathway awareness events at Duke and Durham Tech.
  • Assist in developing outreach strategies with Durham-area high schools to build awareness of transfer opportunities.
  • Partner with SEM staff to engage faculty, academic deans, and advising leaders in pathway alignment conversations.
  • Contribute to efforts supporting curricular alignment and academic transition planning for pathway students.
  • Support coordination of summer academic and research experiences for Durham Tech students.
  • Assist in advising and supporting a Duke undergraduate student organization focused on college access and outreach.
  • Track participation and engagement data related to pathway initiatives.
  • Contribute to summary reports and grant-related deliverables.
  • Collaborate with Admissions, Financial Aid, Advising, and Student Affairs to understand coordinated enrollment strategy.
  • Lead defined components of the Duke–Durham Tech partnership with increasing autonomy.
  • Facilitate cross-campus working groups or pathway-related convenings.
  • Present updates and strategic recommendations to SEM leadership.
  • Contribute to the development of outreach messaging and strategic documentation.
  • Manage selected external-facing partnership initiatives in coordination with senior leadership.
