About The Position

S&ME is seeking a part-time NDT/NDE Technician in Raleigh, North Carolina, to join our Metals Testing & Inspection team, where you'll have the opportunity to develop advanced technical skills through hands-on work and mentorship from experienced professionals. What You Will Do: As an NDT/NDE Technician in Raleigh, North Carolina, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the integrity and safety of various metal structures. Working closely with experienced staff, you will perform routine metals materials testing services, becoming proficient in the operation and calibration of test equipment and reporting requirements. This position involves engaging in fieldwork, which may include safely climbing steel structures such as buildings, cell phone towers, and water tanks to heights exceeding 200 feet, using fall protection equipment and personal fall arrest systems. This position requires flexibility, with 50+ hour work weeks during peak periods, as well as off-shift and weekend work as needed. Experience in Safety, DDC, NDT, and Radiation Training, including the use of fall protection equipment and personal fall arrest systems, is a plus. This part-time role offers competitive pay based on experience. Candidates must comply with our Fleet Management, Substance Policy, and Reference Check requirements. Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • NDT/NDE metals testing experience or an Associate's degree
  • Comfortable with outdoor, hands-on work in all weather conditions
  • Comfortable with climbing heights over 200ft
  • Comfortable with walking over rough terrain and standing for long periods (up to 12 hours)
  • Comfortable with lifting and carrying 40-50 lbs. of materials and equipment
  • Comfortable with working outside of normal business hours and traveling (typically out-of-town and/or overnight) as project needs arise

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational training in non-destructive metals testing services
  • ICC certification in Building Inspections and/or Structural Steel Inspection
  • Level II for UT certification
  • Level II for PT, MT certifications
  • Experience in Safety, DDC, NDT, and Radiation Training, including the use of fall protection equipment and personal fall arrest systems

Responsibilities

  • Perform visual inspections of structural steel, including bolted and welded connections.
  • Maintain testing equipment in good working order and in calibration.
  • Receive training in new technical skills, safety protocols, and other programs.
