About The Position

LATA is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineering, Geology, or Environmental Science student to join our team as an Environmental Engineering Intern. This position provides hands-on experience supporting environmental assessment, remediation, engineering design, and regulatory compliance projects. The intern will contribute to both field and office-based assignments, including technical drafting and modeling using CAD and SolidWorks, as well as spatial analysis and mapping using GIS. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in environmental consulting, applied engineering design, site investigation, and environmental data analysis.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Environmental, Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, or related), Geology, Environmental Science, or a related scientific field
  • Completion of at least one year of college coursework
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks, or similar
  • Experience with GIS software (ArcGIS, or similar)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Willingness to perform fieldwork in varying weather and site conditions
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (if fieldwork required)

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework in environmental engineering design, hydrogeology, environmental modeling, or geospatial analysis
  • Experience developing 2D drawings and 3D models
  • Familiarity with environmental data management and spatial data visualization
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Prior internship, laboratory, or field experience

Responsibilities

  • Assist with environmental site investigations including soil, groundwater, surface water, and air sampling
  • Support remediation system evaluation, design, and field implementation
  • Prepare technical drawings, layouts, and schematics using AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks, or similar
  • Develop and update 2D drawings and 3D models of environmental systems, equipment, and treatment components
  • Create maps, perform spatial analysis, and manage environmental datasets using GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS)
  • Integrate field and laboratory data into GIS platforms for visualization and reporting
  • Perform data entry, analysis, and QA/QC reviews
  • Assist in preparation of technical reports, figures, exhibits, and regulatory submittals
  • Maintain accurate field documentation and project records
  • Collaborate with engineers, geologists, and project managers to meet project deadlines
  • Follow company health, safety, and environmental protocols
