About The Position

The EHS Leader works with corporate and site leadership to implement and improve site safety, health, environmental and radiation safety programs. She/He should promote safety awareness, understanding, and engagement to influence the safety culture towards an injury-free workplace. The EHS Leader will promote the company’s core values by championing safety and motivating personnel to make safety a way of life. This position will provide leadership, guidance and hands-on support to help assure compliance with applicable site, corporate, state and federal safety and environmental regulations and requirements.

Requirements

  • One or more certifications: ASP, CSP, QEP, CIH, RPT, CHP
  • OSHA 40-hour General Industry certification.
  • HAZWOPER
  • First Aid/CPR/AED and Emergency Response training
  • Knowledge of Ergonomic principles
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, physical science, engineering or related science
  • Minimum 5 years of EHS experience within a complex manufacturing or research environment.
  • Developing and implementing EHS, Chemical and IH programs based on regulatory requirements and standards.
  • OSHA reporting and incident investigations
  • Knowledge of reporting needs relative to regulatory requirements (EHS & nuclear safety)
  • Experience with shipping and receiving DOT/IATA regulated materials.
  • Experience in writing procedures and other associated documentation in accordance with federal and state regulations and company practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong training and motivation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Pharmaceutical or FDA regulated manufacturing is preferred.
  • Experience leading EHS programs and initiatives and interfacing with regulators.
  • Experience with radiation and radioactive materials a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, maintain and implement the Environmental, Health and Safety program, policies, plans and procedures.
  • Implements the EHS Training program and provides oversight.
  • Reviews and maintains program records.
  • Regularly inspect the facility and audits practices for safety compliance, addressing concerns promptly.
  • Maintains appropriate DOT/IATA and Hazmat shipping and driving certifications for applicable staff.
  • Perform process, jobs, and work site hazards analysis and reviews, and define the hazards controls to be integrated during planning activities, and implemented during process development, work instructions development, and work execution.
  • Monitor and evaluate activities and work areas, and address safety issues and concerns with employees; provide feedback into the work processes of issues observed.
  • Capture and report safety incident notifications, investigations, and the root cause.
  • Formulates, prepares and implements chemical safety policies / programs such as proper chemical inventory, labeling & storage procedures, and chemical material disposal.
  • Ensures proper chemical or hazmat spill preparedness.
  • Conducts routine and follow-up chemical safety and hazard inspections throughout the facility ensuring adherence to established procedures and proper operation of chemical hoods, eyewashes, safety showers and other emergency equipment.
  • Responds to emergency situations involving radioactive materials, hazardous materials, or fire and smoke incidents; prepares reports, findings and submits recommendations.
  • Analyzes accident and incident reports for trends; makes recommendations for correcting unsafe conditions and actions.
  • Support and backup for the Radiation Safety Office and perform tasks as assigned related to the radiation safety program.
