The Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator is responsible for managing and reducing the risk of accidents that can injure employees and damage property. They must champion, drive and lead communication on all safety programs and policies. They will oversee and coordinate safety training for all site employees. This includes resolving safety problems that arise and completing the required paperwork to close the actions items. Collaborate with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety policies and procedures. Conduct employee training on applicable safety standards. Communicate safety policies and procedures in compliance with TrueNorth Steel corporate standards. Support supervisors and clearly communicate programs for managers and supervisors to train employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials. Inspect their site to identify existing or potential accident and health hazards, determine corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented. These inspection records will be stored in our corporate safety reporting system. Ensure safety policies are being followed by all site personnel. Ensure that site weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual inspections are performed and documented in the records system. Provide information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions. Communicate findings from the investigation of accidents and injuries to all site leadership and Director of Safety and ensure this information is in our corporate reporting system. Provide technical safety support and information to managers, supervisors, and employees. Identify company safety training needs; develop and coordinate safety training programs. Involved in setting annual company site safety goals and objectives. Participate in new product/process reviews including process hazard analyses, Operator Training, etc. Ensure that appropriate personal protective equipment is being worn and maintained by site employees. Promote safety and health awareness through company communication, including newsletters and specific training programs. Act as the Emergency Coordinator in overseeing the site’s Emergency Action Plan. Actively participate in monthly site business review by presenting safety data trends and focus areas. Maintain and organize safety documents in accordance with corporate guidelines. Actively lead their site’s Safety Committee. Dotted line reporting to the Director of Safety. Must hold a valid driver’s license and be able to meet the requirements of the company’s fleet policy. Prompt and dependable attendance. Other duties as assigned.
