As an Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager, you will play a key role in developing, implementing, supporting, and monitoring green and sustainability initiatives at Caterpillar’s Technical Center Site in Chillicothe, IL. This position will be responsible for environmental compliance and leading Operational Sustainability initiatives. Additional Information: This role is located in Chillicothe, IL and does offer relocation. This role is 1st shift, Monday – Friday. This role is 100% on-site with no opportunity for hybrid or remote schedules This role requires up to 10% domestic travel

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or 5+ years equivalent experience
  • Sustainability: Knowledge of sustainability strategy; ability to integrate sustainability into the overall business strategy of the organization to build a sustainable business model.
  • Risk Management: Knowledge of processes, tools and techniques for assessing and controlling an organization's exposure to risks of various kinds; ability to apply knowledge of risk management appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Interpersonal Relationships: Knowledge of the techniques and the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of experience managing environmental sustainability programs
  • Strong understanding of environmental standards, best practices, and key regulations (EPA, OSHA, EPCRA, TSCA)
  • Manufacturing experience with exposure to environmental, quality, safety, and Lean/Six Sigma principles
  • Hands-on experience with Title V Air Permitting
  • Knowledge of collaborative techniques; ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
  • Understanding and insight into the futility of refusing to accept the inevitable and ability to overcome resistance and adapt to a complex and changing environment.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem‑solving, project management, budgeting, and planning skills
  • Ability to influence and collaborate effectively across teams and leadership levels
  • Self‑starter with strong technical leadership capabilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including data interpretation and presentation
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 tools

Responsibilities

  • Drive initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including Renewables; Hydrogen; Batteries/energy
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement processes and technologies that support the organization’s sustainability goals and targets for greenhouse gas reduction, water conservation and waste reduction
  • Lead facility environmental activities, including audits, permitting, Title V air permit, projects and required regulatory reporting
  • Review new products, equipment, and processes for potential risks and recommend modifications before introduction
  • Assure compliance with organization and government environmental & sustainability standards.
  • Perform environmental sustainability audits
  • Support facility environmental sustainability culture strategy/initiatives
  • Generate and/or review reports for environmental (EPA) and other regulatory agencies
  • Reporting to this position are various waste management support personnel
