About The Position

The EH&S Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and sustaining comprehensive environmental, health, safety, and physical security programs across all NaturVet facilities. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (OSHA, EPA, Cal/OSHA, etc.), promotes a culture of safety, and safeguards company personnel, facilities, and assets. The position reports directly to the COO and partners closely with Facilities, HR, and Operations leadership to ensure consistent safety and security standards enterprise-wide.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive EHS experience in manufacturing, food, or pharmaceutical environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, Cal/OSHA, and related environmental/safety regulations.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
  • Proficient in developing and implementing policies, SOPs, and training programs.
  • Working knowledge of SQF, GMP, HACCP, and food safety regulatory expectations in manufacturing environments.
  • Comfortable with technology (CCTV, access control software, EHS databases, and Power BI dashboards).
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) for essential business tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond effectively in crisis situations and maintain confidentiality.
  • Regularly required to walk, stand, bend, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Exposure to noise, varying temperatures, and manufacturing machinery.
  • Must wear required PPE when in designated areas.
  • Driving: Ability to drive a vehicle between three facilities.
  • On-site across all NaturVet facilities, with regular presence required on production floors, warehouses, support buildings, and corporate office.
  • Collaborative and Fast-Paced: The role requires frequent interaction and collaboration with various stakeholders and can be fast-paced, demanding, and require managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), CHMM, or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Prior experience managing facility security systems and vendor relationships strongly desired.
  • Experience working in SQF-certified or GFSI-recognized food manufacturing environments preferred.
  • HACCP, PCQI, or food safety training is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs including IIPP, Hazard Communication, Injury Prevention, and Emergency Response.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and internal corporate safety standards.
  • Conduct regular facility safety inspections, job hazard analyses, and risk assessments.
  • Lead incident investigations, determine root causes, and implement corrective/preventive actions.
  • Manage workers’ compensation cases and return-to-work coordination with HR.
  • Develop and deliver training for employees, supervisors, and contractors.
  • Chair the Safety Committee and drive continuous improvement through data analysis and KPI tracking.
  • Support SQF and food safety programs by reinforcing Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), sanitation, and employee safety practices within production environments.
  • Partner with Quality to ensure EHS programs align with SQF requirements, including employee safety, chemical handling, and hygienic workplace practices.
  • Has the authority and responsibility to comply with food safety and quality requirements and to report, escalate, or stop work when food safety, quality, or regulatory issues are identified.
  • Oversee programs for hazardous waste, wastewater, air emissions, and recycling in compliance with EPA and local environmental agencies.
  • Maintain required permits and ensure accurate reporting and documentation.
  • Partner with Facilities and Quality to ensure proper labeling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials.
  • Lead sustainability and energy-efficiency initiatives aligned with SwedenCare corporate ESG goals.
  • Manage facility security systems and programs including CCTV, access control, alarm systems, and incident response.
  • Serve as primary liaison with security vendors, local law enforcement, and emergency services.
  • Establish and enforce site access protocols, visitor control, and perimeter security standards.
  • Coordinate investigations of theft, vandalism, and workplace violence with HR and Facilities.
  • Conduct periodic vulnerability and threat assessments.
  • Ensure alignment with corporate IT on cybersecurity and networked security systems.
  • Develop and maintain site emergency response plans and business continuity procedures.
  • Coordinate regular drills for fire, earthquake, and other emergency scenarios.
  • Maintain relationships with local fire departments, emergency management, and law enforcement agencies.
