Our team is ramping up for the summer construction season and is seeking a highly skilled undergraduate to participate in our summer internship program. You will start work in May and have the opportunity to participate in WSDOT's culvert replacement and fish habitat improvement program, a great opportunity for anyone looking for a career in restoration, biology or environmental engineering or just wanting to expand your knowledge and experience in that career path. While your home base will be the Redmond or Fife office, this is primarily a field position and may require travel to the Olympic or Kitsap Peninsulas, for up to a week at a time. Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelors degree in a relevant engineering, environmental, or natural science field and in good academic standing with at least two years completed.
  • Valid drivers license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to collect data in teams during fieldwork.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other Office products, including data organization and management.
  • CESCL certification required or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire, with safety awareness for environmental fieldwork.
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather and difficult terrain, support overnight fieldwork on the Kitsap or Olympic Peninsulas, and availability for a seasonal position lasting 1016 weeks.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with field data collection tools such as GPS devices, sensors, sampling equipment, and data loggers preferred.
  • Prior fieldwork experience or coursework, including sampling techniques, specimen collection, and data recording, is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and adaptability to unpredictable field conditions.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including technical or academic writing proficiency as a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Documenting temporary erosion and sediment control best management practices.
  • Preparing daily inspection reports, collecting tree inventory data.
  • Assisting with wetland delineation, assisting with construction of fish block nets.
  • Live capture and release of fish for stream restoration projects.
