Environmental Intern-Paid NewRange Copper Nickel is searching for highly motivated and committed individuals for our seasonal/temporary paid Environmental Internship position. Reporting to the Environmental Specialist, this position will provide exposure to environmental engineering studies, regulations, and permit requirements. You will experience a broad range of learning opportunities through a variety of tasks that include hands-on experience in remote field operations and professional office environments. More information on NewRange is available at https://newrangecoppernickel.com/ Job Summary Reporting to the Environmental Specialist, the Environmental Intern is responsible for supporting environmental monitoring, compliance, and field operations by assisting with sampling activities, data collection, and recordkeeping. Working under the guidance of experienced environmental professionals, the intern will gain hands-on experience in environmental fieldwork, GIS and GPS data collection, data management, and regulatory compliance. Requirements

  • Enrolled in college pursuing a degree in environmental, chemical, or civil engineering; an earth sciences discipline (chemistry, biology, geology, natural resources); or a related scientific degree.
  • Must be a motivated, self-starter, with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Capable of working indoors and outdoors, safely maneuvering conditions such as open water, inclement weather, insects, and wildlife, and hazards such as mobile equipment.
  • Acceptable driving record with a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas to all levels and partners.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Ability to take initiative in proactively completing job duties.
  • This position requires the ability to perform field-based work in varying outdoor environments and weather conditions.
  • The Intern must be capable of standing and walking for extended periods; bending, kneeling, and climbing on uneven terrain; and safely lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to approximately 40–50 pounds.
  • The role may involve working at active construction sites, drilling locations, or confined spaces, and require sufficient manual dexterity, visual acuity, and stamina to operate field instruments, collecting samples, and accurately record data.

Responsibilities

  • Field Sampling Assistance: Support environmental sampling field activities, including preparation, sample collection, and field observation under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Remote Site Access Support: Assist with maintaining trails and access routes to remote sampling locations to ensure safe and efficient fieldwork.
  • GIS & GPS Application: Utilize GIS & GPS tools to collect and record field data, contributing to accurate environmental monitoring and spatial analysis.
  • Compliance Support: Assist with environmental compliance monitoring events and support accurate recordkeeping in accordance with regulatory and site requirements.
  • Data Entry & Analysis Support: Perform data entry, basic data validation, and organization of environmental datasets using spreadsheets to support reporting and analysis.
  • Flexible Support: Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to meet operational needs.
