RETTEW is seeking an Environmental Scientist 1 to join our Environmental & Geotechnology Practice. This entry-level role is ideal for someone who wants to build hands-on experience supporting environmental investigations, field studies, and permitting efforts while working alongside experienced scientists and project managers. Work Environment Hybrid work schedule with a combination of office, field, and remote work depending on project needs. Locations: State College, Williamsport, or Mechanicsburg, PA. Safety & Compliance Requirements This position is designated as safety-sensitive and requires successful completion of all pre-employment screenings as a condition of employment. Responsibilities include operating company-owned vehicles and performing field-based work in active construction and environmental investigation environments. Continued compliance with RETTEW’s safety policies is required throughout employment. Position Summary The Environmental Scientist 1 supports environmental investigations, permitting, and compliance activities for a variety of infrastructure, energy, and development projects. This role includes a combination of fieldwork, data collection, and technical documentation while learning from experienced environmental professionals. The position provides a strong foundation for growth within environmental consulting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geology, biology, ecology, environmental engineering, or a related field.
  • 0 to 3 years of relevant environmental or field experience.
  • Ability to perform outdoor fieldwork in varying weather and terrain conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Internship or field experience related to environmental consulting.
  • Experience with environmental sampling or field documentation.
  • Knowledge of wetland delineation, environmental permitting, or regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience with GIS or environmental data management tools.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with environmental field investigations including soil, groundwater, and surface water sampling.
  • Support wetland delineations, habitat assessments, and environmental site inspections.
  • Assist with preparation of environmental reports, permit applications, and technical documentation.
  • Collect, organize, and manage environmental data and field notes.
  • Support environmental compliance monitoring during construction activities.
  • Work closely with project managers and senior scientists to support project delivery.
  • Follow company safety procedures and field protocols.
