About The Position

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE Performs detailed cleaning and maintenance of hospital floors to ensure they remain sanitary, safe, and visually appealing, in accordance with infection control and hospital standards. This is a full-time benfited position working 80 hours per two-week pay periods. Days of work are Monday - Friday. Weekends and holidays are as needed. Will be in the weekend on-call rotation. Hours can be variable with floor care projects.

Requirements

  • Must be able to follow oral or written orders.
  • No formal experience is required; on ¬the job training is provided.
  • Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee at JRMC. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working. Employees are also expected to remain at work for their entire work schedule.
  • Ability to recognize cleaning needs, prioritize tasks, and follow procedures to ensure areas are cleaned thoroughly, safely, and on time.
  • Work is performed independently. Employee must use their judgement to plan and carry out their work in situations where methods and procedures are established.
  • Frequent contact with visitors and hospital personnel. Occasional contact with patients.
  • Carelessness could frequently result in moderate harm to patients, visitors or co-workers caused from wet floors or trips form cords, etc.
  • Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability. Must be able to see or use prosthetics that will enable the individual to meet major requirements of the position.
  • Works beyond normal working hours on occasion when performing special assignments such as carpet extraction or floor waxing. Is subject to slips from wet floors throughout the workday, as well as possible reactions to disinfectants and cleaning chemicals. Participates in and complies with the JRMC Safety Management Program. Maintains knowledge of and observes Standard Precautions. Follows infection prevention practices and approved cleaning/disinfection procedures.
  • This position is defined as Category I: Employee does have exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
  • Operates a variety of floor care and cleaning equipment, including auto scrubbers, buffers, wet/dry vacuums, carpet extractors, mops, and other approved cleaning/disinfecting equipment. Uses floor care chemicals and supplies properly, including correct dilution and safe handling.
  • May be exposed to physical hazards such as slips, trips, and falls; is exposed to disease and infection when cleaning contaminated rooms.
  • Constant walking, standing, reaching, stooping, bending and kneeling when stripping and waxing floors. Must be able to constantly push floor care equipment of 50 pounds and occasionally lift supplies of 50 pounds.
  • A comprehensive background check will be conducted as a condition of employment for this role.
  • A urine drug screening is required for all positions and must be completed within 30 days of the date of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Performs hard floor care, including dust mopping, machine scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and buffing.
  • Provides carpet care, including vacuuming, spot cleaning, shampooing, and water extraction.
  • Prepares cleaning solutions and germicides according to approved formulas, SDS, and infection control standards.
  • Cleans and maintains stairwells to ensure safety, cleanliness, and compliance.
  • Maintains and assists with minor repairs of floor care equipment; reports malfunctions promptly.
  • Adheres to hospital policies, infection prevention practices, safety regulations, and accreditation requirements.
  • Carries and responds to assigned JRMC pager and addresses floor care requests throughout the shift.
  • Moves furniture and equipment to access floors safely and returns them afterward.
  • Operates floor care equipment, including auto scrubbers, buffers, extractors, and vacuums, following safety procedures.
  • Maintains professional, courteous interactions with patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Collaborates with department leaders to schedule floor care projects at times that minimize impact on patient care operations.
  • Orders and stocks supplies to ensure availability for daily operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support hospital operations.
