About The Position

Environmental Services Manager (EVS Manager) manages and oversees the operations and performance of the Environmental Services function within the Mesa County Facilities department. They will oversee, manage and administer the EVS department providing team leadership and supervision, operational management, inventory and budget management and administrative tasks to sustain clean and safe areas in support of Mesa County’s services.

Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a valid drivers’ license and operate a government vehicle.
  • All applicants must be able to pass a background check.
  • Generally, requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with 5+ years of custodial, janitorial, or housekeeping experience and 3+ years in a supervisory or managerial role or the requisite skilled experience of sufficient scope and scale.
  • Strong knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency with cleaning chemicals, equipment (floor scrubbers, vacuums, etc.), safety procedures, floor care (stripping, waxing, buffing, shampooing, spot care), and infection prevention / sanitary cleaning techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, train and manage the performance of cleaning staff and subordinate supervisors.
  • Manage labor needs for the division.
  • Assign tasks based on skill levels and training.
  • Evaluate and recognize performance or handle disciplinary and corrective actions.
  • May be expected to perform supervisory or technician duties as required to ensure continuity and standard of service.
  • Develop and implement cleaning schedules and procedures.
  • Perform regular quality assurance site inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety and sustainability guidelines.
  • Order, track and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Manage and prepare yearly personnel, equipment and supply budgets to sustain or improve services as directed.
  • Prepare daily / weekly reports on cleaning operations and staff performance, supply levels, contract performance and work order status.
  • Manages departmental budget.
  • Manages resources for the environmental services department and provides recommendations for staffing levels, schedules, cleaning procedures, products and equipment.
  • Completes personnel responsibilities for interviewing, hiring, managing, staff development and training, performance evaluation, corrective action, recognition, and staff engagement.
  • Manages all quality improvement initiatives regarding training, auditing, inspecting, and making recommendations as needed for workflow and process improvement.
  • Promotes a culture of safety, hygiene, cleanliness, and positive employee engagement and retention.
  • Supervises and / or performs on-call emergency services and cleaning response when needed.
  • Establishes self as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for environmental services: including cleaning, floor care, infection management / sanitation, regulatory compliance, and training.
  • Effectively employs computer programs and mobile devices, using applicable hardware or software, attaching files, composing appropriate email messages and appropriately using internet browsers or sites.
  • Takes a customer centered approach when addressing the needs of and interacting with employees, team members, contractors, and the public.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
