About The Position

The Environmental Services Technician- Operating Room performs advanced environmental services duties in a healthcare, laboratory, or sterile environment, including complex cleaning assignments that require strict adherence to infection control protocols and regulatory standards. Supports supervisors in monitoring specialized cleaning areas such as surgical suites, labs, or isolation environments. Requirements

  • High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities can be acquired.
  • One (1) year of environmental service experience in healthcare, laboratory, or sterile environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of training in sterile processing or surgical cleaning.
  • Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

Responsibilities

  • Performs enhanced cleaning and disinfection in high-risk, sterile, or regulated healthcare areas such as operating rooms, procedural spaces, laboratories, and isolation units.
  • Supports quality and safety initiatives through strict adherence to infection prevention and contamination control practices.
  • Interprets and follows specific departmental procedures for terminal cleaning and cleaning of specialty spaces.
  • Works in collaboration with nursing, sterile processing, and laboratory staff to ensure spaces are cleaned in alignment with operational needs.
  • May act as a peer resource or preceptor for EVS I and II staff in high-risk areas.
  • Uses and maintains specialized cleaning equipment, including UV disinfection systems, autoclaves, or HEPA-filtered vacuums as assigned.
  • Completes documentation and logs as required by regulatory bodies or departmental policy.
  • Removes biohazardous waste according to OSHA and hospital guidelines.
  • Maintains safety in all work processes, ensures compliance with regulatory standards, and participates in readiness activities for inspections or audits.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, maintains privacy in patient areas, and communicates effectively with interdisciplinary teams.
  • May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.
