About The Position

The Environmental Specialist II, you will monitor the environment, identify environmental issues, and recommend solutions to enhance the lives of those who live within the Choctaw Nation. You will report to the Environmental Compliance Officer/Director. Primary Tasks: 1. Communicate with federal, state, and local agencies via telephone, email or in person to resolve questions, concerns, and requirements. 2. Act as lead to develop new programs within EPS. 3. Responsible for certifying all environmental requirements have been followed by the Choctaw Nation in accordance with appropriate State, Federal and Tribal guidelines/regulations. 4. Assist tribal departments and communities with environmental compliance standards by training and performing inspections. Review and assist junior Environmental Specialists’ work. 5. Participate in environmental regulatory inspections. Communicate with all internal sites/departments regarding areas of noncompliance to assure compliance is met. 6. Make recommendations for and develop policies and procedures based on applicable federal and state environmental laws and policies that affect the Tribe’s operation and programs. 7. Locate, research, interpret and apply environmental laws and regulations and maintain environmental records that pertain to program areas. 8. Present technical information about CNO programs at conferences & seminars. 9. Complete reporting as requested for all levels of management; maintain tracking software and track progress of projects/noncompliance to assure completion. Review and facilitate responses to comments received to verify that the environmental findings are following appropriate regulations. 10. Responsible for the supervision and guidance of staff. 11. You will perform other duties as may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science related field
  • Knowledge of environmental law, policies, and practices
  • Environmental Certifications required (UST, LBP, asbestos, mold, SDWA)
  • Strong organizational and research abilities.
  • Work both independently and as a collaborative team member along with the ability to organize, prioritize, document and document multiple projects.
  • Eight (8) years’ experience in environmental related field.
