If you're driven by the passion to change lives, this is the place for you.Job Summary  The Environmental Specialist - Water Quality, internally known as the Environmental Consultant, is responsible for developing creative and cost effective solutions for a wide range of environmental issues. The position involves leading projects to implement the company's environmental strategy, advocacy, policy development, compliance programs and underlying regulatory requirements (enterprise wide or client specific), either independently or as a member of a team.   The Environmental Consultant must be able to interface with all levels of management and represented personnel and be able to communicate effectively with internal and external customers, consultants and regulators. This position requires a sound overall knowledge of local, state and federal environmental regulations, and the utility industry.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in physical sciences, environmental sciences, or related field
  • 2+ years’ of relevant experience with demonstrated ability to perform the requirements of that position
  • Strong communication and analytical skills, organizational skills, leadership qualities and overall knowledge of state and federal regulations affecting the utility industry
  • Excellent computer skills, with working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Nice To Haves

  • A strong technical understanding of government regulations, environmental science, or related field
  • Minor in Biology or a related natural science
  • Experience supporting water quality-related compliance, permitting and licensing activities to gain governmental agency approvals
  • Experience with waterway & wetland permitting (e.g., DNR Chapter 30, Army Corps permitting, including Water Quality Certifications)

Responsibilities

  • Obtaining NPDES permits and approvals, implementing permit requirements, and submitting discharge monitoring reports for facilities
  • Conducting permitting and licensing activities necessary to gain governmental agency approvals to construct and operate electric and gas distribution systems, electric generating facilities, renewable energy facilities, and gas storage facilities
  • Ensuring compliance with storage tank requirements and spill prevention, control, and countermeasure plan requirements across the corporation
  • Work assignments will include periodic coverage, including emergency response or planned off-hours work. Some travel is required
