About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY: Under direct supervision builds prototype inflators for internal and external customers. Performs simple routine technical tasks from detailed standardized procedures. Builds energetics assemblies from drawings and written instructions. Records test procedures and results. Performs routine data review and calculations and recommends changes in equipment, products or test methods. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Builds prototype inflators for internal and external customers. Sets up EPL machinery for established processes. Performs conformance tests, friction welds, gas fills, leak checks, laser welds, crimps, resistance welds and final electrical checks. Packs out inflators in accordance with EX letters. Cross sections and measures weld penetration. Reads, understands, interprets and follows written instructions and technical drawings. Maintains Six Sigma attribute charts of specified processes. Takes area ownership for 5S/6S. Loads energetics into inflators that do not have a separate energetics subassembly. Assembles take apart hardware inflators. Builds energetics assemblies from drawings and written instructions. Works closely with engineers for inflator development. Maintains energetics inventory IAW BATF. Records data for evaluations and calls attention to deviations from the established standard. Follows all written and implied safety rules. Performs other duties as assigned. WORK ENVIRONMENT / CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work will take place in a shop environment. Employee may be required to work weekends, holidays and be on-call on occasion. While performing the duties of this job, employees will be exposed to mechanical or chemical processes requiring the use of personal protective equipment. The employee will be expected to have excellent hearing. The employee may encounter controlled air conditions with frequent air changes, environmental exposure, lift up to 45 pounds, and will be in close contact with energetic “live” inflator systems during normal work activities. These are considered essential duties and are illustrative of those job tasks, which are fundamental. Employees may be required to perform additional related duties as may be assigned by management. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with one (1) year of related experience.
  • Formal training in area of specialization preferred, such as training received from a technical trade school or military technical school.
  • Must have mechanical aptitude demonstrated in the successful completion of the mechanical aptitude test.
  • Must have the ability to read, understand, interpret and follow written instructions and technical drawings.
  • Attention to detail is a must.
  • Manual dexterity is required as well as the ability to stand for eight (8) hours.
  • Must have basic computer skills and be familiar with various computer programs such as Excel, Word, etc. with an emphasis on spreadsheet functions.
  • Must have excellent communication and multi-tasking skills.
  • Any equivalent combination of relevant experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.
